And now, for your viewing pleasure, a Treo 750 supping upon Windows Mobile 6 Professional's sweet, sweet nectar. No, we've no details on when, where, or how this might find its way to existing Treo owners, but it's an encouraging sign, is it not? Follow the break for a little more visual confirmation.
I'm a total Apple fanboy, but I'm not sure that the iPhone will do what I want it to. I'm going to need more work level functionality (ie. non-yahoo push, editing documents, etc.)
Windows Mobile 6 is not so bad as to force me to need the iPhone.
"The big news today is Microsoft's announcement of the latest version of Windows Mobile: Windows Mobile 6. Although much of the news about WM6 was leaked late last week, today Microsoft held several events at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona. You can find coverage of the event at TreoCentral's new sister-site, WMExperts.com."
Definitely a 240x240 screen, interesting how Windows Mobile has only now gained support for this while PalmOS devices have been using 320x320 and higher for years.
*Yawn*...wake me up when the PalmOS version comes out.
Dude, Palm OS is too unstable since it got sold. The only thing that made it better than Windows Mobile was the 320x320 resolution. And WM6's got that now.
Billy Kincaid - I just don't recognise your assertion that PalmOS is unstable. My Treo 680 runs for weeks without a reboot, using a whole range of apps. Although I do think WM6 looks like it might finally have matured into a decent product, I suspect that the reason people are now dumping on PalmOS is much more because it's been around for a while without a major update and therefore is not as fashionable as WM6 (there's a turnup for the books) than because it's sub-standard in any significant way. Can we try and keep this real, please?
There's also a leaked WM6 upgrade out for HTC Wizard-based phones. I upgraded mine and it worked great, but it didn't sync with Missing Sync so I had to downgrade back to WM5 :(
If I had thought about it, I would have taken a picture and sent it in :)
Boy, the Treo 750 sure sucks. Why anyone would choose it over, say, an HTC Wizard is completely beyond me. And before you say it, realize that a 200mhz OMAP is equivalent to a 400mhz Xscale roughly, so, yes, the Wizard is actually faster.
The 750 series actually uses 300Mhz Samsungs that are as fast as the 400Mhz Intel Xscales. Having used both the Cheetah [750] and the Wizard, I can say that the 750 is way faster and more responsive than the Wizard.
I have a Treo 750 and an HTC TyTN and I prefer the Treo for usability. When I want/need something powerful I reach for the TyTN. Right now I'm using the Treo on Cingular (as it's currently locked) and the TyTN on T-Mobile. T-Mobile's data network totally sucks compared to Cingular's, but I find I have fewer dropped calls now that I am on a reliable voice network. I still have dropped calls on my Treo (Cingular) ALL THE TIME.
If/When they release WM6 for the Treo, I'll love it. I thought about getting a Kaiser for the GPS, but I think I'll stick to the Treo for now. And hopefully the next GSM WM-based Treo has GPS. If so, I'm sold!
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Nectar? Or Kool Aid?

Needs more Linux
Who cares. We need Palm OS or Garnet whatever they call it. Everyone has gone nutz with MS Mobile. Please get me a 750 without MS.
It was a cold day in hell when palm first put windows mobile 5 on one of their devices.
On one hand this is kind of cool. On another, is this 240x240 or 320x240 like wm 6 is now capable of?

Does anybody know where I can find out if we'll be able to upgrade our existing 700wx to WM6? (specifically one with Telus Mobility)
Check out http://www.pdaphonehome.com in the forums, Someone there should be able to give you an answer.
Already seen this.

What are the chances Verizon will get this? I want this phone BAD! I don't like any other Verizon smartphone enough to ditch my XV6600 yet...
*yawns* What an amazingly boring design. Looks as if Palm's hardware is fallowing its software in terms of stale design.
I have this phone and I love it. I can't wait for the upgrade!
If I can get WM6 on a Treo 750, I'm buying it!
could you imagine a beowulf cluster of these?

Palm's stability problems began when they switched to NVFS (non-volatile file system).
