LG FLATRON L1982U touts 3000:1 contrast ratio
Although LG is probably off attending to more pressing matters, the LCD team isn't fazed by all the drama at 3GSM, as it's busted out a new 19-incher with the oh-so-popular "world's best" label slapped right on. The FLATRON L1982U purportedly boasts the "world's highest" contrast ratio for an LCD computer monitor at 3000:1, and we're guessing the "computer" part is what allows it to hold the honors. Nevertheless, this beauty is dressed in all black, features the "f-ENGINE picture-enhancing" technology, Auto Bright to automatically set the brightness according to ambient light, 170-degree viewing angle, 2-millisecond response time, tilt / slide functionality, and a height adjustable stand. Reportedly, the firm's L1900J and L1970HR are also (albeit quietly) receiving the 3000:1 treatment, and while prices don't seem to be readily available, we're sure you'll be paying a premium for all that newfound darkness.[Via PCLaunches]

In Sweden the price is around 365€, but the screen has not gotten rave reviews. http://macworld.idg.se/2.1038/1.95594
The review did not like the colours when used to view photos and similar stuff.
Hmm let's see, have to do the story on that LG monitor... mustn't forget to report the single most important spec, the single most important spec is native resolution... musn't forget to... D'oh!
With LCD monitors nowadays, you can essentially assume the native resolution based on screen size. With rare execptions, all standard aspect 19" LCDs are 1280x1024. So while it is important, if the size is given, it's safe to assume the native resolution.
I recall reading somewhere that Apple is using LG LCDs in their new displays (iMac, MacBook Pro, etc...), don't know if that holds any water though.
3000:1 has to be dynamic contrast ratio... i doubt that number is actual CR... similar to the new Samsung displays (206BW, 226BW) which are also 2ms and 3000:1...
Yeah, my new Samsung 206BW has 3000:1 "dynamic contrast" ratio and 800:1 real contrast.
Still looks sweet though :)
why isn't it in widescreen?
World best contrast ratio with the worlds worst aspect ratio. Oops.
Seriously, who the hell buys 4:3 these days? I dont care how awesome the picture is, if it aint widescreen then its useless. No amount of contrast would make up for the lack of widescreen since there are too many widescreen monitors with already a great picture.
