We knew it was coming,
we knew it was soon, and now it's here: you can finally get the
SageTV Placeshifter for your Mac. Not quite as early or exciting as we expected, but better late than never, and there's no better time than the present to start placeshifting your media to wow your friends and / or mother. Remember, you'll still need a Windows or Linux box running the full-blown SageTV app to actually do the shifting, and that'll cost you $99 and includes one placeshifting license. You can pick up another for $30. As always, we recommend such gifts on February 14th only when accompanied by the traditional flowers / candy / bears standbys -- let's stay safe out there!

Hi, I'm a PC and I can run damn near everything on the market.
Hi, I'm a Mac and I can only run Apple products and a few software items that third party vendors are good enough to grace us with. Games? Only the major hits or really old ones. But hey, nobody iPod's like I do. Oh, wait, that works on a PC too, huh? Oh, I have a built in camera. Oh, so I have to move the entire screen in order to rotate that camera to show other people or object in the room. Hmmm. Oh, but I have a nice white shell...that, err, umm, cracks and yellows. Hi, I'm an idiot I guess.

The two fanboys at the top of these comments need to go pop some pimples.

number 1 and 2 need therapy SOON, ignorance is bliss i guess, how bout ya try using a mac lol do you think there might be a reason half the people buying them are windows switchers, and the other half are happy never to go back to windows? DUH lol

yeah its pretty darn obvious why people use macs, they are better! Thats why people aren't turned down by the fact that they don't run all of the software that windows machines can. I have both Macs and Windows Machines, and If I cant do something on my Mac, I fire up my windows machine. Thats not very often though. Plus, no spyware, no viruses that need to be worried about, more innovations, Macs just seem better. Especially compared to Vista, containing many many features already available in OS X. Macs are they way to go.

There are some unofficial streaming video extensions to MythTV, but nothing official as far as I know.
Haven't tried any of them, so I don't know how well they work.

Oooh, placeshifting for the Mac! Wow! I can set up a Win/ux box at home (no Mac Mini for you! Well, 'less it runs bootcamp), pay $99 and shell out for every other computer I want to use the software on. Orrrr... I can buy Sony's LocationFree hardware box which is much better suited to working with DVRs and such and get a mac client for that. Orr I can make the REALLY smart decision, get a Slingbox, and not pay for the flippin' client licenses!!!!!! Sheesh, I can set up media streaming without this, and for live TV??? Thanks but I'll take the Sling.
Jeff @ Feb 15th 2007 11:17AM
Oh... and ORB can do placeshifting just fine. For Free. As for the mental wanking above on the superiority of the Mac or not... thank you for providing subpar arguments to the world's longest running platform/fanboy war.

With Sage, you only need a Placeshifting licence for each simultaneous stream (the licence is held on the server), so you can install the s/w on as many different systems you like. You only need an extra licence if more than one person wants to use access your server at the same time.
You can't really compare SageTV to a Slingbox. It's like comparing a computer to a calculator. SageTV is so much more programmable and configurable than a Slingbox. Consider the fact that it can support multiple placeshifter users accessing, viewing different shows over the internet or locally, as well as multiple clients and extenders on the home LAN - all at the same time.
SageTV is frankly one of the most robust, advanced, configurable PC-based DVR systems that you can buy today.
(I am just a satisfied customer of sage for the past 4 years...no other connection).

Hopefully Sage team will one day realize that their GUI is by far worst i've seen in my life. If they cant find someone to do nice original GUI for them , just rip MCE interface and be done with it and call it best-ever-DVR.
