SendStation's Dock Extender lets your iPod keep its clothes on
If the idea of breaking out the soldering iron just to extend your iPod dock connector a few inches doesn't sound appealing, the SendStation folks have a new hack-free Dock Extender product that should fill your needs without any of that nasty "work" stuff getting in the way. Unfortunately, the only purpose of this thing is to let you dock your iPod without removing its case -- a worthy cause, indeed, but not quite as exciting as the prospect of waving around a cable-attached iPod around willy nilly. No word on price or when SendStation will have this thing ready, but you can sign up for notification at their site, and it'll probably be hitting for $15-$20 if other products are any indication.[Thanks, JT]

This is great; but I believe the community here wanted a cable.
I'll try to say the magic word: Please?
Dang, still no cable.
Chris @ Feb 17th 2007 12:31PM
I whole-heartedly agree. I use a Logitech mm50 speaker system to charge and listen to my iPod, so this is of no use to me. For docks that extend up the iPods side at all, a CABLE IS NEEDED! Why, WHY won't anybody make one?? Until then, my iPod will just have to remain unsheathed when charging.

Why it took since iPod Gen 3 to produce this kind of product is beyond me. Most welcome!
BatteryAcid @ Feb 17th 2007 1:04PM
Wow, normaly you have to take clothes off before sticking things in.
Kevlar @ Feb 17th 2007 1:08PM
Curse you BatteryAcid! You beat me to the innuendo...

Did anyone think of just removing the plastic dock adapter insert and doing the same thing?
iSkippy @ Feb 17th 2007 2:41PM
Won't work in all cases (no pun intended). Even with the adaptor removed, my 5G iPod still won't fit in the dock while in its Contour Design iSee case.
kornchild2002 @ Feb 17th 2007 2:51PM
I guess that would be nice but the case in the picture (the iSkin eVo3) doesn't need to be taken off for the iPod to fit in standard docks. My 5G 60GB iPod with its eVo3 case can fit in the standard Apple iPod dock, the iPod Hi-Fi system, my friend's off-brand iPod speakers, the 3rd party dock in my car, and a Apple dock iPod modified.
I guess you can either spend $20 on this cable extender to spend $35 on one of the best cases out there for the iPod.

What I really want is something that turns an iPod 30-pin into a Zune 30-pin.

man, i just don't really get the whole case phenomenon. there's no point in getting such a beautiful device if you're going to have it wrapped up in a ball of duct tape. i mean, personally, i think a scratched up ipod looks better than one with a bulky, ugly case on it. and really it's not going to get terribly scratched up if you're just not an idiot.
i got an ipod for christmas, and i put it in the little sleeve thing to keep it nice. and then after a week it just fell to the floor and a big dent made all my tender care in vain. but it's for the best. now i have one less thing to be ocd about, and it honestly doesn't look that bad.

Ball of duct tape? Have you seen the Contour Design Showcase video?

I ordered one two days ago and it's a work of art. The days of drab iPod cases have been gone for years.
The iSkin evo3, the Agent18 VideoShield. You can still protect your iPod without marring its beauty (to a certain extent of course).
Once my case arrives, I'll probably be looking for this Extender. Sounds like it could come in handy.
rmetzger @ Feb 17th 2007 4:09PM
i just took out the inserts that went go in the dock to fit your ipod, worked perfect with my ipod+protective shell
free and works fine.
joe @ Feb 17th 2007 4:34PM
damn. i just bought a regular one. i didn't think i'd have that problem...i was wrong.
joe @ Feb 17th 2007 4:36PM
i retract my statement. i just bought a pocket dock from them. that looks very similar. i didn't read far enough. i will probably get one. that would be nice.
Galley @ Feb 17th 2007 7:39PM
If you owned an Agent 18 case, then you wouldn't need a device like this since Agent 18 cases are dockable. They even come with a dock insert.
CH @ Feb 17th 2007 8:13PM
I don't know why anyone buys those clunky ass cases. Go buy an invisible shield at http://www.shieldzone.com/ Don't even need a case then.
Nick @ Feb 18th 2007 1:19AM
I just use the Sik Imp- http://www.sik.com/imp.php
A fact that doesn'tseem to be advertised is that the Imp is modular, it has a female power outlet, and a line out cable. They provide you with a car
adapter for it, but any 6 pin to 6 pin (I believe that's what the firewire cable that I bought is, they have on the works on the Sik website) firewire cable works with my 4th gen power brick with my 5.5 gen Ipod, allowing me to charge my Ipod at home or in the car with a lineout without removing the case.

I really love SendStation. They make the simplest, yet most beautiful and useful iPod accessories on the market. This is no exception.

This is useless for anything that has a deep cradle like the inMotion IM7 as well or any other thing that uses a deep cradle. Not to sure why they created an extender with such limited use for most of us in need of one.
