Sharp's latest 37-inch AQUOS LCD does 1080p
If Sharp's top-o-the-line R-series of AQUOS LCDs are a tad too rich and too big for you and yours, then try on the latest 37-inch G-series, g. The LC-37GS brings a full, 1080p HD resolution across that ASV LCD panel. Fine, while that resolution bests that of their 37-inch AQUOS LC-37D43U, you'll have to suffer a lower 2000:1 Dynamic Contrast vs. the 6000:1 found on the D-series panel. As to the rest: 6-ms response, 176-degree viewing angle, and 2x HDMI, 1x DVI-I, and 2x Firewire jacks for connecting your video camera and Sharp's AQUOS HD recording gear. Available in either side (LC-37GS20) or under-panel (LC-37GS10) speaker configurations for about ¥320,000 ($2,015) when these hit Japan in March.

Ok, what is up with no Componant????? 2 HDMI is nice. DVI is nice. But thing else?!?!? Maybe there is by the site is in Japanese so I can't tell. Can anyone translate? Does it have any analog hookups?
2grand for an lcd?
2 grand for a LCD that displays 1080P. It might be a little high, but its Sharp. Sharp is to LCD what Sony was to CRT. The quality is worth the price.
$2000+ for a 37 incher is a bit high, I saw a Sony Bravia this weekend as BJ's that is 46" and has 2x hdmi 2x component and does 1080p w/ a 7000:1 contrast ratio for about $1800. I don't remember if it has a QAM tuner.
37inch 1080p? Welcome to 2005 Sharp - the Westinghouse (no you fanbois, not quite sharps quality, but still very good) have been on the market for years with this, and is now selling below $1,000. There may be a quality delta, but it's not 100%, Sharp's target market is pretty much folks who don't know better these days.
1080p is one way to convince someone to drop $2k on a 37" LCD
JSM,
Please show me a 37in 1080P LCD under 1000. I'll go out and buy it tonight. A 37in lcd 720p sure you'll find it. But a Westinghouse 37in 1080P is $1349 at Bestbuy.

Which isn't a bad price, but Sharp has been in the LCD business longer that anyone and up to a couple of years ago manufactured 80% of the worlds LCD. I'd trust their product in that line more that any other companies. Some of Sharp other product I would not say the same thing.
Here is the Westinghouse LVM-37w3 for under $1000...if you're serious about buying one tonight and you have a Conn's appliance store in your area, they have 'em in stock. This is the model that everyone likes, identical to the 42" and 47" Westinghouse models in features, only smaller and cheaper.

Awesome deal, I've been contemplating getting one or two for myself, and all the stores here in my area have good stock of them...
It's a bummer these new displays don't have HDMI 1.3
Chris, why would you purchase an LCD monitor with a contrast ratio of 1000 to 1?
Sev -
I could live with it only because it has a price ratio of about 2 to 1...when looking at all of these 1080p panels side by side in a store, I start to wonder what system the manufacturers use to get their contrast and brightness specs, because the difference in picture quality definitely is not worth 2X the cost in many cases, especially for casual use...
Dude you guys are way off on the price. 320,000 yen is about $2,650, not $2,015.
What is the best 37" LCD TV right now?
The 1080p part seems off too - it's 1080i according to http://www.sharp.co.jp/aquos/lineup/gs20_37/feature01.html
