GPSPrevent intros GPS-enabled G200 speed zone warning detector
Sure, the higher-ups in Switzerland aren't exactly fond of GPS devices that sniff out speed cameras, but that's not stopping France's own GPSPrevent from kicking out a rendition of its own to fight The Man whilst driving. Presumably similar in function to Cobra's own forthcoming (and controversial) red-light camera / radar detector, the G200 integrates a GPS receiving into a typical detector in order to warn drivers about "fixed radars, danger zones, and mobile radars" throughout France and Europe. In an effort to get extra fancy, it even informs the driver of the distance until a zone is reached, what the authorized speed limit is, what type of radar it is, and how frequent the given camera looks for victims. The device signifies that you're coming up on a speed trap by beep or robotic yelps (read: male or female vocal cues) from up to 600-meters away, and the volume can be adjusted depending on how frightened you'd like to be when this fellow blasts out your faults. Additionally, drivers can program in their own alarm points thanks to the built-in memory, adjust the brightness of the digital display, and save themselves from quite a few tickets starting right now for €129 ($170).

Sounds great, until pigs go mobile.

Is this basically the same as a Road Angel then?

Set your cruise control 5-8 mph over the speed limit and enjoy some good music...and save a life.

just cause your speeding doesn't mean your going to kill someone. So tired of this slow down and save a life BS. Morons that cant drive behind the wheel are more of a threat then someone who speeds and can control their vehicle at that speed.

I just realized something.. My local police department is installing GPS trackers in all their cop cars, supposedly for better response times. Anyway, could someone easily hack that and pick up those trackers on their own GPS receiver? Thus you could know exactly where every cop is in the city.
Holy crap..

Yuppers. That is very true but is only relevant if someone was selling a slow driving moron detector. The GPS Speedzone Warning Detector is to help speeders avoid tickets.
The indisputable fact (you demonstrated that you agree with this) is that accidents are more likely when people are driving at a wide range of speeds on the same road. Between the slow driving morons and the idiot speeders, accidents happen. It's safest if everyone is driving between a reasonable range of the posted speed limit.
Do you have children? I have three.

Radar detectors have been around as long as radars...the speed vs. safety argument is pointless, people will do what they want.
But what about the potential to save lives with the red light camera detection? If this detector warned those "idiots" that there was a red light camera ahead I'd think they'd be more likely to proceed cautiously through that intersection or stop at a yellow light rather than run it and risk a ticket? I just don't see how that added feature makes this device more of a risk than a regular radar detector.

I agree, I would rather have a device that alerts you of a cruiser and their distance. With instant-on and laser, current detectors are useless. Integrate it on my Garmin and I would be in heaven.
