Engadget's 3rd Birthday Giveaway - Day 1

- Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX + Copy of Lego Star Wars II + Xbox 360 for Windows Controller
- SanDisk Sansa e280R
- Netgear WGR101 Wireless Travel Router
- Samsung A920 (Sprint)
- v-moda bass-freq headphones
Here's what you have to do to win:
Make a post in the comments below with links to your favorite Engadget posts from each of the past three years (i.e. post your fave link from 2004, your fave from 2005, and your fave from 2006). Make sure you have one post from each year, as well as why it's your favorite post of that year, otherwise we have to disqualify your entry. It's a little tougher if you haven't been reading the site since 2004, but you gotta give something back to the old school, right? We'll pick five winners at random from among all qualifying entries.
A few rules (yeah, there are always rules):
- You may only enter this specific contest once. If you enter this contest more than once you'll be automatically disqualified and barred from all future giveaways. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.) You may enter our other Birthday contests, but you can't win more than once; if you happen to win more than once (which is pretty unlikely, but still) we'll ask you to choose just one of your prizes.
- You can only win once.
- This contest is open to anyone anywhere.
- Contest is open until 11:59pm EST on Sunday, March 4th.

Happy Birthday Engadget! :D
2006: Nintendo Revolution gets real name: http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/27/nintendo-wii-the-revolution-gets-a-real-name/ - I was actually surprised about Nintendo made that decision... As well as the speed Engadget reported it.
2005: the 2004 Engadget Reward! http://www.engadget.com/2005/01/03/the-winners-of-the-2004-engadget-awards/ - 2004 was a very interesting year for gadgets, especially the way Engadget rewarded it ;)

http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/08/how-to-the-magic-phone-part-1-number-pad-matrix-decoding/

http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/18/india-announces-plans-to-develop-robot-army/
prolly one of the biggest load of BS type news things i have heard...haha we cant even have gps systems in our cars in india cos there's no road mapping logic there and they want to build robot army's.
From 2006, the BenQ FP241W review! This is where I first saw the monitor and eventually purchased it, and it is simply amazing.
http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/07/benq-fp241w-24-incher-reviewed/
From 2005, the unpacking of 360! It was a while after the launch before I finally got my own 360, so I drooled all over my computer when this was posted.
http://gaming.engadget.com/2005/11/17/unpacking-the-xbox-360/
From 2004, this was fairly amusing even though I found it much later than 2004. I had been wanting to make the switch over to a mac, but I didn't have the financial means to do so. This was the closest thing to a real mac that I could get at the time, and it looks a lot better than boring old Windows XP.
http://features.engadget.com/2004/06/09/turn-your-pc-into-a-mac/
i think i should win because it is actually my birthday today(the big 21. Come on engadget show me some love; and i can prove my birthday...
always a loyal reader,

2006:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/11/playstation-3-vs-xbox-360-vs-wii/
You have to love the stackup of the three consoles and the fact that after years of waiting for the next gen consoles, they range from good, to ok, to just plain bad. I'll let you be the judge of what title fits which console. :-)
2005:
http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/14/wireless-ipod-by-mid-2006/
This was one of my first articles reading about the iPhone seeing as I am neither a fan of Apple of Cellular products. However this intriqued me enough to follow the story leading up to Job's announcement at the last "little-get-together" he threw.
2004:
http://www.engadget.com/2004/08/02/an-xbox-2-in-2005-yes-no-maybe/
Seeing as I am a M$Fanboy this was yet another confirmation as to why I loved this company. You have to love Ballmer and his "phrases" as well as the announcement for the 360.
And there you have it, three years in review! Congrats on 3 Years & Keep'em Coming!

2004: http://www.engadget.com/2004/07/14/playstation-3-to-hit-in-march-2005/

2005: http://www.engadget.com/2005/07/22/playstation-3-for-spring-2006-launch/

2006: http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/16/sonys-playstation-3-review-roundup/

2004: http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/20/sony-playstation-portable-psp-hands-on-review/
Remember how fantastic it looked? The wonderment we all felt? ...Of course, then it released and the only games were (and still are) crappy ps2 ports and the disc drive was loud and annoying, but I still remember the excitement of a 5 year old in the weeks leading up to the release.

This post is about the archos 604 wifi. I had just recently purchased my av500 and saw the 604 and said meh. Then THIS came out and with WIFI and I was pretty crushed... so not I think I like the looks of the 704, though it has a 7inch screen... which is kinda big... and the new gen 4 has that stupid $100 add-on dvr station instead of coming WITH the unit!
Well there are my fav posts from 2004, 2005 and 2006.

This was the first time I heard about the iPhone, and while I'm no fan of ipods or macs, I do recognize what Apple has done for both industries. An advanced phone from Mac would surely shake things up.
2004:

because macs run windows and are awesome becuase of it, let windows at least look like a mac to give it some edge.

One line article with the photo, and yet it managed to make my day. I laughed so hard that I fell off my chair when I first read it, and I passed it on to all my friends. It was corny enough for me to proud of it! ;-)
2005:
http://www.engadget.com/2005/08/22/engadget-1985/
Because I LOVE things from years gone by and the article was so well written, it made me smile and wish I had been born in a better age, even though it wasn't so good technologically.
2006:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/22/ce-oh-no-he-didnt-part-ix-gates-watches-pirated-videos
The photo of Bill Gates made me laugh, and also because it's nice to know that the guy's human and not stuck up and believes in convenience over following stupid rules that don't make sense for consumers.
Happy Birthday Engadget!! Thank you for everything. Honestly.

This is just plain cool. One step closer to Fantastic Voyage!
2005: http://www.engadget.com/2005/06/06/apple-goes-intel-its-true/
I'm usually not interested in Mac news, because I use a PC. In this case though, the implications were clear: one way or another, OSX was coming to the PC.
2006: http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/20/miller-to-introduce-self-cooling-beer-cans-next-year/
Crazy Europeans aside, nobody likes a warm beer.
2004:
http://www.engadget.com/2004/03/08/why-tivo-hasnt-taken-off/
I own a tivo, and I wonder why they are not as popular all the time, then again it might be the insane price tag with the series 3 now :(
2005:
http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/15/xbox-360-launch-date-is-november-22/
I learned the date that I would have to sit outside in the cold for 12+ hours

how could you not laugh at wii injuries
My favorite from 2004 because I was completely floored by the HD requirements at that time:
http://www.engadget.com/2004/05/05/longhorn-to-require-pcs-from-the-future/
My favorite from 2005 because I was jazzed about the Revolution/Wii and was glad it didn't turn out looking like this:
http://www.engadget.com/2005/02/24/could-this-be-the-nintendo-revolution/
My favorite from 2006 because I drooled over this phone:

2004:
http://www.engadget.com/2004/07/07/ipod-mini-goes-international-on-july-24th/
iPod mini was what made apple BIG, when I heard it was coming to the UK I went head over heels!
2005:
http://www.engadget.com/2005/08/29/rokr-or-new-ipod-on-september-7-part-ii/
The speculation hype was funny, apple are the master of surprise!
2006:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/22/microsoft-reconfirms-vistas-january-ship-date/
Microsoft, the master of surprise, the surprise of another vista delay, I'm glad they've shipped it now!
Engadget rocks, it will always be my 'web' home!

Karakuri the low-tech Tea Server
http://www.engadget.com/2005/10/25/karakuri-the-low-tech-tea-server/
This bot has it all - a bit of far East novelty, some do-it-yourself hands-on, and the cliche badge of honor, 'world's first'.
Engadget is a popular whipping boy for folk who think the site is all about tomorrow's news. Here it proves it worth by looking backwards.
2006: Bill Gates, Engadget reader
http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/16/bill-gates-engadget-reader/
Who could deny Engadget its moment of pride, no matter how vain, when old Bill let drop his interest in all things (en)gadgety. Thankfully you got over that and realised its the millions of us, humble readers, who make Engadget the marvel that it is (though I hope Bill's still reading...).
but c'mon judge(s), Engadget's like a puppy - sometimes it pees in the corner, sometimes it drags you places you don't want to go, but you gotta love it all the same. It is maturing into something nice and every day brings a golden moment; I simply can't remember them all!
Just keep on keeping on.

- I didn't understand the name at this point, but now, since I have one, It's the perfect name.
Thanks,

mine is more of a journey of sadness...well, i'm not sad, but i'm sure sony is...
http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/20/sony-playstation-portable-psp-hands-on-review/
everyone is so optimistic about the PSP!!! how awesome is it going to be?! pretty good review, with seemingly a lot to look forward to...
http://www.engadget.com/2005/03/31/playstation-portable-hasnt-sold-out-yet/
still general enthusiasm, but some concern that A SOLID MILLION of them weren't bought on the first day...
http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/12/sony-keeps-up-solid-streak-of-psp-marketing-snafus/
....and then, amongst the flurry of firmware updates that have happened in the last 2 years, and the hackers that stay ahead of them, and the constant price point, and the DS selling like mad, Sony still cant get any right, including their marketing groups. awesome. simply awesome.
i aplaud you engadget for your coverage on the PSP, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that Sony is retarded.
* note: i am not an xbox fanboy, i simply hate sony. i love ninty almost as much as m-soft
