Engadget's 3rd Birthday Giveaway - Day 1

- Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX + Copy of Lego Star Wars II + Xbox 360 for Windows Controller
- SanDisk Sansa e280R
- Netgear WGR101 Wireless Travel Router
- Samsung A920 (Sprint)
- v-moda bass-freq headphones
Here's what you have to do to win:
Make a post in the comments below with links to your favorite Engadget posts from each of the past three years (i.e. post your fave link from 2004, your fave from 2005, and your fave from 2006). Make sure you have one post from each year, as well as why it's your favorite post of that year, otherwise we have to disqualify your entry. It's a little tougher if you haven't been reading the site since 2004, but you gotta give something back to the old school, right? We'll pick five winners at random from among all qualifying entries.
A few rules (yeah, there are always rules):
- You may only enter this specific contest once. If you enter this contest more than once you'll be automatically disqualified and barred from all future giveaways. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.) You may enter our other Birthday contests, but you can't win more than once; if you happen to win more than once (which is pretty unlikely, but still) we'll ask you to choose just one of your prizes.
- You can only win once.
- This contest is open to anyone anywhere.
- Contest is open until 11:59pm EST on Sunday, March 4th.

Sorry, I don't think my first post made it to this. Never could find my post. Happy Birthday Engadget! My favorite news site regarding Technologyand Gadgetry. Best of luck to everyone!
2004
http://www.engadget.com/2004/09/07/how-to-make-a-nintendo-controller-into-a-pc-joystick/
I think this got me into modding more than just installing modchips on my consoles. I eventually made an useful usb nes controller for nes games I would emulate. This was a stepping stone, I eventually made an old useless ps1 (before the sticks) controller into a PC game controller. Never really used that controller much except to play on my ff7 pc copy and emulation.
2005
http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/19/nintendo-revolution-controller-in-action/
First major news I've read detailing the wii-mote. I have to admit, it did get me quite skeptical of how this was exactly was going to work. I was a doubter at first, but can't deny my nintendo fanboy that I grew up with.
2006
http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/26/hacking-your-way-to-a-ps3/
Favorite Article of 2006. It was very interesting to see how this Playstation 3 server never got hacked into and have the image on changed. I've tried, but failed miserably as I would no where near consider my attempts on par with any talented hacker.
Had to retype that via Radmin, since engadget was taking my message from my pc.
2004-Lose weight the Dance Dance Revolution way

I had just purchased a DDR pad and we always made fun of the kids that were good at DDR but still comically fat.

This is when I first learned how cool Vista (then codenamed Longhorn) would be. That's why it's my favorite post of 2004. (I really can't wait until flash harddrives become the norm.)
2005:
http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/12/ipod-with-video-tips-and-tricks/
When I got my new iPod (with video) this post helped with finding all the little things I could do with it. That's why it's my favorite post of 2005.

2004: http://www.engadget.com/2004/08/19/the-circulafloor/

2005: http://www.engadget.com/2005/06/28/vstones-robovie-v-is-a-baller/

2006: http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/22/wifi-sniffer-turns-your-ds-into-a-wardriving-tool/
This got me really excited about homebrew on the DS. Over a year later I have yet to take the plunge because I'm forgetful and cheap.
2004-
http://www.engadget.com/2004/08/17/appetite-for-destruction-weblowitup-com/
My first read, hmmm a site about blowing up technology, lets see what else is kicking around... anyway it provides great stress relief, just order something from here:
www.imsplus.com/ims41b.html and go raid the recycle closet for a nice P133, or PII 450.
2005-
http://www.engadget.com/2005/03/15/clocky-hides-when-you-hit-snooze/
Its Clocky, you just can't get any better than that. I wanted one when the post first hit Engadget, and now I hear she's actually selling these guys:
www.nandahome.com/products.clocky.html
But sadly with out the carpet covering. Still one of my favorite Engadget posts of all time, and yes someday I will take my nice shiny new credit card over to her site and buy one. I can feel my willpower slipping away.
2006-
http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/11/keepin-it-real-wtf/
I have always enjoyed keeping it real fake, each installment is a good insight to the stuff that goes to market in Asia that we'll never, ever see over here in the Land of Bush. Anyway this one just made me laugh out loud and has since been re-created using a virgin-sacrificed USB cable and an old 128mb PNY stick. "You need a USB Stick?"... "Here borrow mine..."
Here are my favorite How-To's from Engadget:
2004 - HOW-TO: Hacking the iPod firmware (changing the graphics)
http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/08/how-to-hacking-the-ipod-firmware-changing-the-graphics/
This taught me how to hack for the first time (sort of, with software haha), I think I was just 15yo that time. Good times. Moving on...
2005 - How-To: Embed a wifi detector into a backpack strap
http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/13/how-to-embed-a-wifi-detector-into-a-backpack-strap/
I have this on my bookmarks on the old XP laptop for the longest time. Never really made it work after spending time getting all the materials and following the stuff written (and ruining my messenger bag in the process), but it was good to get my hands dirty.
2006 - How To: Consolize an arcade game
http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/28/how-to-consolize-an-arcade-game/
Now this one was really good because we had 2 old unused arcade boxes at school (not sure why it was there in the first place, but we got permission to tinker with it), and with some help from some modding expert-buddies, and this guide of course, we made one of the arcade boxes to work at our house - console-ized. It was somewhat enjoyable playing the thing, but got tired of it after 3 days or so. The actual making-process took about 2 weeks haha. Anyway it was a fun waste of time.
2004 - http://www.engadget.com/2004/10/11/nintendo-revolution-console-in-2006/
Big fan of Nintendo since the early days of the NES...was real excited about the announcement of the next gen console now known as the Wii!
2005 - http://www.engadget.com/2005/06/06/apple-goes-intel-its-true/
I'm a hardcore mac user and was excited that Apple finally switched over to Intel.
2006 - http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/24/cingular-8525-spotted-again/
The Cingular 8525 with its HSDPA goodness completes my geek makeover!!
2004: http://www.engadget.com/2004/07/14/playstation-3-to-hit-in-march-2005/
Playstation in 2005?? hmmm.
2005: http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/01/predictions-for-2006/
For the predictions, Engadget is the best :-)
2006: http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/27/nintendo-wii-the-revolution-gets-a-real-name/
What a laugh when I heard for the first time wiiiiiii!
2006: http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/30/panasonic-neuter-your-bunny/
This is the most expertly written article I have ever read about the benefits of neutering bunnies.
2006 runner ups: the great coverage of Stefan Eriksson's excitingly shady life. Engadget should direct the movie about this guy, it would be way funny.
2005: http://www.engadget.com/2005/06/18/kidnapped-dalek-recovered-on-glastonbury-tor/
Dr. Who is awesome and this is a funny story, even though it fails to mention that the real reason the kidnappers let the Dalek go was their fear of its awesomly devastating destructive capabilities. One of the reasons I read Engadget is for their coverage of important international news like this.
2004: http://www.engadget.com/2004/05/11/grizzly-bear-fighting-suits-for-sale-on-ebay/
I am really big into Grizzly fighting, a sport that is too often ignored in common news, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to read this article. Unfortunately I fight in one of the unarmored Grizzly Fighting divisions, so a suit like this would be of little use to me. What's up with all those guys up north building crazy fighting stuff? Isn't that guy building the fighting mech up in Alaska or something?
2006: http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/24/the-lockdown-locked-but-not-secure-part-i/
I've always been interested in physical security, and there aren't that many Engadget articles about it. I always wanted to read the MIT lockpicking primer, but never got around to it.
2005: http://www.engadget.com/2005/07/14/optimus-wireless-keyboard-wears-its-functions-on-its-keys/
such a cool peripheral! ...but 18 months later we're still waiting for it. :(

2006:http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/19/duke-scientists-build-theorized-invisibility-cloak-sort-of/
Nice to jump onto the bandwagon of nothing, but still fun

I want a new XV6800 for Verizon, and check here frequently to learn more about it!
2004: http://www.engadget.com/2004/09/14/kryptonite-evolution-2000-u-lock-hacked-by-a-bic-pen/
I think my very first visit here was that day. The bic pen hack was pretty big news for a few days.. and then eventually settled in. But it got me interested in this site, that's for sure :)
2005: http://www.engadget.com/2005/05/12/engadgets-live-coverage-of-the-xbox-360-launch/
I remember just trying to get a look at the 360.. I was totally obsessed. I followed all the colony games, and I was stoked to learn more about the 360. Engadget did fantastic coverage.
2006: http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/11/ben-heckendorns-xbox-360-laptop-best-mod-ever/
I have to admit, I'm quite the Ben Heck fan. You guys are lucky to have him on staff (and he's lucky to work for you!) because everything he does is just incredible. But the 360 laptop blew me away the most.
If I had to pick anything for 2007 it would be the Apple coverage when they unveiled the iPhone. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time ;-)
2004:
http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/03/motorola-about-to-hit-up-a-startac-2004-edition/

2006: 30 Years In Apple Products http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/01/30-years-in-apple-products-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly/
Loved this article. Brought back some really great memories (and some pretty scary ones) from Apple gear... way back.
2005: Apple Looks at use of Intel Chips
http://www.engadget.com/2005/05/23/apple-looks-at-use-of-intel-chips/
The post that started the world thinking it was actually possible that Apple was making the transition.
2004: No Video iPod
http://www.engadget.com/2004/04/29/steve-jobs-says-it-again-no-video-ipod/
I think it's rather ironic that Stevie shouted from the rooftops that Apple would NEVER make a video iPod. Seems never wasn't quite long enough :)

This was the turning point for the Wii. From this point on all you heard in video game news was how hot the Wii is and how revolutionary it’s controller is. I love my Nintento Wii and play it all the time. That is why I love this post.

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/16/ps3-crime-spree/ - I would think the PS3 launch would be good, but to see how psychotic people got about it was just amusing
