EyeFi tag-team duo just announced a refresh of their 42 and 47-inch 1080p LCD sets. The new LF-4200DFK and LF-4700DFK pair of televisions still pack a 1920 x 1080 resolution and 500cd/m2 brightness only now with an integrated digital/analog tuner and improved 1200:1 contrast. They also tout a faster 6.5-ms response for the 42-inch panel on down to 6-ms for the 47-inch. The slabs pack a Faroudja
DCDi scaler; HDMI, S-Video, D-Sub 15, and composite inputs (see ya component); and presumably a Chi Mei Optoelectronics (
CMO) panel like their previous low-cost sets. At ¥219,800 (about $1,903) for the 42-inch and ¥269,800 (about $2,336) for the 47-inch, they've got the minerals to call these the "industries cheapest Full HD LCDs." But as Costco and Sams patrons can already attest, that
ain't even true. Still, let's wait for some solid US pricing after these launch in Japan on March 9th before bringing the hammer down too hard.

"industries cheapest Full HD LCDs."
I'd have to disagree here. Westinghouse has the cheapest priced Full HD LCDs.
It ain't even correct grammar. The claim should be written, "industry's cheapest full HD LCDs", rather than the nonsensical, "industries cheapest full HD LCDs".
It looks like one of the cheapest *full-featured* HDTVs. The ATSC tuner and DCDi scaler should be worth the price premium over the Westinghouse.
I'm not sure how Westinghouse is going to handle the FCC's requirements for ATSC tuners. See: http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/02/the-beginning-of-the-end-for-analog-tv/

These new sets come out next month. The built-in tuner is one of the only real differences from the current models. They also have a 5000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (which is mostly a meaningless buzzword) but the static contrast ratio is still 1000:1 AFAIK. I believe they are using the same panels as the current models.
The price will be higher, reflecting the inclusion of a tuner. If you want to save the cost of the tuner, buy one of the current models while you can.
Industry's cheapest 1080p LCD in Japan, perhaps?
While LCD prices are plumetting in the states, even 32-inchers were selling for 150,000~200,000yen (1300~1700 dollars or so) when I was over there Sept~Dec 2006. This was true even for large electronics shops and those in the electronics district of Osaka (Nipponbashi/Denden town). No one believed me when I told them those things were less than half the price in the US of A.

They don't have to because technically, the sets without the tuners aren't televisions. They're monitors. To be a television, they have to have a TV Tuner. No TV Tuner, not a TV.
FCC is mandating all screens that are include a TV tuner, include an ASTC one.
In other words, if you put a coxial port on the device, at least one of them has to be ASTC
You could have gone into any Costco and get a Vizio 47" 1080p LCD a month ago and walked out for $1650. Its regular price is still under $2K.
I currently have the 47" eyefi. The picture is the best and when there's nothing on tv, I switch over to my computer to surf the net. I got mine for $1899 at Wal-mart online and had it delivered to the local Walmart in town to save on shipping. Now if I can just keep my kids from touching the screen.
Sony bravia V 46V2500 could be had for around USD 1800 in Japan since around Janury 2007
ByD:sign / EyeFi / Tech HD Displays are absolute, overpriced, junk. Their sets do not work as advertised. I have 2 of them.
The byDesign 40"LCD's DVI connection looks terrible. And there's nothing byDesign can do about it - they even shipped me a second display - same crap image from a multitude of DVI and HDMI sources. Also the Eyefi 37" screen I have will not sync with HDMI - it times out. (HDMI industry standard no-no) So it never can show a HDMI signal from ANY source. Nice VGA tho - if you need it, but if you need HDMI - AVOID!!
