RIM's Blackberry 8300 "Daytona" with WiFi?
Photos of a purportedly unannounced Blackberry codenamed "Daytona" are making the rounds in Spain this morning. This new RIM device clearly marked "evaluation unit" on the back is said to sport a 2 megapixel camera with LED flash, GPS, and that glorious WiFi we're all missing on the 8800. Spanish site Xataka speculates that this media savvy device will carry an 8300 model number when it hits at the start of summer. Perhaps, but we're still wondering when we'll see the notorious 8820.

If this thing has WIFI, let's all pray that it also has SIP with STUN support.
I love my Nokia E61, but WIFI is an absolute joke on there mainly because the phone's software is so stupid.
And before you ask, yes I have the latest firmware 3.something
Noki ahas amazing hardware but sucky software. RIM is the oppsite with awesome software but sucky hardware. Lets just hope they nail it with this one.

The front looks very Treo-esque! I like it though. The black on the rear looks sleek with oh my god... a camera????????

I saw this phone 2 months ago in Vegas at a Convention. 2 RIM guys had it. They were transfering files and such wireless and USB. This looks to be an awesome phone. Everything people need and don't need. If it's got something your not gunna use then don't use it and don't buy the phone and shutup about it already. Camera's and Wifi will soon be standard. Camera's basically are already.

Not sure I get your point Chris?
My argument was that I wanted I a feature to be offered, a feature that I will use. And I would like it to be properly implemented.
Am I missing something?

Hi!
I'm the author of these photos. I have tried the gadget and i have to say that the 8300 is nice, but the firmware is buggy, veeeery buggy. The GPS and Wifi functionalities were software-enabled, but they were not physically implemented inside this prototype.
You can see more photographs and in the future i'll post every prototype i receive (1 or 2 per month, moreless) in my blog, MenteSDigitaleS (mentesdigitales.wordpress.com). I'll post in spanish and english, so you can understand it better. I'll post a short video i made of it in the next few hours.
Bye!

I wasn't talking @ you Oliver. I hope it has SIP with STUN support as well. I was just making a general comment. I have no idea what you are or are not missing so hey. Let's hope RIM does us well with this one.

"I have no idea what you are or are not missing so hey."
Well, that makes two of us, because I haven't the vaguest idea what it is that you've said.

I hope this one can connect to Blackberry Enterprise Server using WiFi or GSM/CDMA network, rather than just WiFi like some other rumours are saying.

Just curious... does RIM have any intentions of releasing a 3G version of this phone. Seems like they are always a step or two behind the times!!!
MI_canuck @ Mar 6th 2007 5:29PM
All they need now is 3G and a touchscreen ;-)
