We really honestly do wish Chinese knockoff artists would spend more ripping off gadgets we want to use (i.e. not iPods), but hey, it is what it is. And if nothing else, "Le Clip" might just have the best name a knockoff ever had. Voulez-vous jouer la musique pour moi?
We've NEVER been proponents of the iPod. That's no secret. Personally, if you can pick up a Rio Karma, that's the best drive-based audio player ever, IMO. Pretty much everything out right now sucks though, if you ask me. Sorry, jaded but those are my feelings on the matter!
I'm lovin' the anti-Apple going around. I think there's too many switchers as it is. Hopefully this means the decline of Wil O'Neil types constantly saying how much they hate Apple and the ipod.
Alright, Ryan, fair nuff, although I'm trying to figure out how I've been reading you guys for years without being aware of your official anti-ipod position. I do agree that aside from the iPhone the innovation level from all the players has really tapered off in the last year or so, Apple included.
As for the Karma, I always thought that it looked great on paper, but the feeling faded fast whenever I picked one up and start playing with it. The interface was ok, but the joystick IMO didn't work as well as the clickwheel, hard drive capacity topped out at 20GB and was notorious for failing in the first couple of months, it didn't play video or have anything near the visual style or cache of the iPod.
Bad feelings about DRM and closed systems or no, you have to admit that iTunes works pretty well with the iPod and that the store has a lot more content than anyone else. I'm not gonna front on the fact that my iPod is 80% loaded with songs I didn't pay for, but the luxury of watching the Office on the subway ride to work is proving to be a lot more convenient than I thought at first and the convenience of purchasing it on iTunes far outweighs the $2.00 dent to my wallet.
About the only obvious advantage I see with the Karma is battery life and being able to save on the go playlists and considering all of the above advantages plus the fact there is a huge cottage industry of third party peripherals made only for the ipod it would take a lot more than that for me to switch.
Plus, unlike the Rio, the iPod is still being manufactured, which I tend to see as an advantage. You'd better be careful with your fondness for obsolete technology or your gonna turn into one of those old timers who won't let go of their Amigas because it was plainly superior to all the other 1985 OS's and didn't deserve it's fate. I'm as romantic as the next guy but I'd rather save my passion for something with real consequences like global warming or Britneys recovery process.
I purchased one of these in 2GB from uxcell.com who removed it from their website before I even received it. It worked at first, although it is clearly poor quality workmanship compared to the shuffle. The case does not seal around the edges, the clip and the buttons are weak. Now, I have had this a little over a month and cannot get it to work at all and it is past the 30 day return policy with uxcell.
I do NOT recommend these, they are not worth the money.
Also, we have several shuffles, they run well over 12 hrs, while this one goes out in 2-3 hours. The shuffles are excellent quality and hold up through 3 kids using them daily. One got ran through the wash and works fine!
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

Do they have more colors than the current Apple shuffles? And are they cheaper? Then maybe some people might be interested in them.
Now Engadget is anti-Apple? I'm so confused.
Its $20 including shipping for 1GB. I bought one.

Power: Built-in Lithium battery - 2 hours runtime (manufacturer claims 8 hours)
lol? :D
Not "CHIQ" ut "CHIC". Veuillez bien manier la langue de Voltaire ! Bonne continuation!
Ceci n'est pas un commentaire!
So... it's basically a shuffle with the buttons rotated 90 degrees. Nice.
The volume buttons are switched around, too.
battery life??? any comments
Oops, never mind. The picture on Engadget seems like that, but the product page shows the buttons are just rotated 90 degrees.
This is not a Shuffle
This anti-iPod faddishness is getting kind of stale and obvious, but I'll play along. Which non-Apple MP3 player do you recommend, Mr Block and why?

That's just horrible.
That shit wouldn't stand two seconds in the states. This is the type of shit the Chinese do. The people responsible for this are dispicable.
Horrible.
For those iTunes lovers, beware. These probably won't work with itunes.
Am I the only one who got the whole René Magritte connection in the image? (Ceci n'est pas une pipe.) Woohoo! I'm artsy!
I think you're the only one who felt it necessary to remark on the obvious. Woohoo, I may be even more pretentious!
Chris - nope. My shuffle has "Ceci n'est pas une" inscribed above the 'iPod'. It's ironic, see.

2 Hours play-time? Nice try, but no thanks...

i love that of all things it doesn't have a shuffle mode.
Even the name "Le Clip" is not original: In 1986(!) Swiss watch maker Swatch launched a watch-on-a-clothes-clip named Le Clip.

Black is in stock for $20, red is out of stock and costs $19.98.
I bought one - 2Hrs battery, though OEM claimes 8.
Well, sadly thanks to them Chinese pirated guys, OTHER original Chinese makers, like Aigo, is not as popular, and Korean ones are so fab.
