ASUS' PG221 gaming monitor rocks the dorm
If space is such a premium that you must skimp on sound, then go 'head, be our guests and choose ASUS' PG221 as your all-in-one rig for sight and sound. Like the 19-inch PG191, the 22-inch LCD features an integrated 2.1 audio system (subwoofer tucked away in the LCD stand), a 1.3 megapixel webcam bunged into the bezel, and a snappy 2ms response which seemed happily unaffected by the Hulky booms ASUS demonstrated. "Hulk," as in the movie used for the demonstration, the sound was just average but certainly good enough for a small apartment or dorm. The PG221 brings a 1680 x 1050 resolution, 3x USB hub, 1000:1 contrast, 300cd/m2 brightness, touch-sensitive controls and a range of inputs including DVI, D-Sub, composite, S-Video, component and of course, a microphone jack for all your cross-net trash talkin' needs. No price or release date, just plenty of pics after the break.

Very cool

Those specs sound great - assuming they can at least bring the 19" for under ~£300 then I'll be all over this.

Wouldn't even the best designed stand vibrate at least a bit if the sub was worth anything at all? A vibrating display; that'll be a comfortable on the eyes.

Added realism: when you take damage the ENTIRE MONITOR SHAKES!

Looks great, but that subwoofer is tiny. Looks smaller than the tweeters on my speakers. Should sound better than the usual monitor speakers, but that isn't hard to beat.

Why would you put speakers on a gaming LCD? No real gamer is going to use these speakers. I personally will only use 5.1 speakers or true 5.1 headphones. Another thing is the camera, who uses a camera is gaming? It would be nice if this speaker and camera money went into a better quality LCD.
The specs look good but that doesn’t mean it’s a quality LCD screen. A classic example of this is Samsung, they made and still sell a 22" LCD with their LCD panel in it and then started using another panel from another manufacturer that is about half as good. They sell them for the same price and as the same LCD you can't tell which is which without looking at the serial number on the back, so if you get screwed with this crappy LCD you are mad as hell!
The way this is setup I’d say it should be sold as a multimedia LCD not gaming.
