Props to Zunerama for an anti-hack so painfully obvious we're kind of kicking ourselves for not having thought of it before. Want to live stream your music to your pals with Zunes (what do you mean your pals don't have Zunes?) or even FM radios? Just use the FM transmitter. It's relatively low-powered, of course (unless you performed
that other hack), but at least anyone who happens to know you're broadcasting on that particular frequency can listen in. Of course, it would be nice if they actually added this feature via WiFi so you could get nearby Zune discovery, track information, and all the fun stuff that makes us pissed about having to resort to such a silly hack as this.
i actually do this from my phone to my zune...
my fusic has an fm transmitter and the zune picks it up... its a lot easier to load my phones mem card then the zune software
So you spend $250 on a FM radio?

^^ dude, what a waste ? on SQ, Zune is much better than your crappy phone or the iPod. Or are you so brain limited when using the Zune software just for sync.
Come and check www.zunescene.com at the forums and we will try to help you.
You know, the Zune has a big screen, good processor, tons of storage, wifi and the ability to play audio and video. That is enough hardware to make a great device - all that's left is the software which is supposed to be Microsoft's thing so why have they done such a crap job?
This thing should be capable of streaming audio and video to every other Zune (with permission) within 100 meters, it should browse the web, allow people to play games locally, via wifi and via the net, it should do VOIP (if they add on a microphone somewhere), be a remote control for your media center. What else can people think of?
It could be a magnificent device. But for some reason it has been intentionally hampered to the point where no-one can see the point of it.
Love them or hate them, MS has been known for some good ideas in the past, I wonder where that all went.
I think there is one reason for 80% of the issues you talked about. DRM. DRM (Digital Rights Management) dictates a lot of what can be done at this time.
Microsoft has done a decent job of trying to make this DRM stuff as seamless to us as possible with their "Play For Sure" marketing. This is where MS went right and Apple went wrong. Apple will not release their DRM, so no one else can make a iTunes compatable device. MS Licenses out their DRM under "Play For Sure"
Lets hope the DRM Nazi's lighten up so progress can continue!
Toshiba Gigabeat > all other MP3 players.
Read up on some news, pretty much everything you said has been said by MS to be coming, besides the VOIP. It's not meant to be a media center, thats what pocket PC's are for. pocket PC's dont compete with ipods (although neither do Zunes really), but Zunes do a bit of a better job with that.
Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought the Zune didn't support Plays For Sure. If that is in fact true, then you might want to rethink your stance on how good a job MS has done with DRM.
If I am mistaken, then I will ust quietly slink away, although I do remember reading that about the Zune, just not sure if anything has changed.
The bad thing is that YOU won't be able to listen. That's pretty pointless...
