Gamestop slashes PSP Value Pack to same $200 as Core unit
If we had a dollar for every time we've heard someone complain about the PSP's price, we could probably afford one (we jest! LocoRoco fuhevah!), and it seems like someone has finally heard those pleas. The latest GameStop ad touts a newly slashed the price for the PSP Value Pack: $200, a full $50 off of its normal price, and the same amount of dollars the PSP goes for in the buff. No word if this is a Sony-originated price drop, or if GameStop was just feeling generous on the PSP's two year anniversary, but we won't look a gift horse in the mouth -- let's just hope a $150 PSP Core unit is soon to follow.

This is NOT a Sony price drop...it is a GameStop clearing out an old SKU sale (Sony doesn't even make this sku anymore). This was already cleared up by PSPFANBOY.

I just was at Costco and they too had slashed the price - listing a "manufacturer's instant rebate (-$100) for their bundle, which has the core unit plus two games.

Here is how to get a PSP (or a PS3 for that matter) for $100 bucks off.
Go to sonystyle.com (sony's store) and get yourself a Sony Visa. They will give you a $100 credit after your first purchase (like a game for your new system)....once you have the credit...buy a PSP or PS3 (anywhere not just at sonystyle) for $100 off the price.
Ta Da.

No...I don't work for Sony...in fact I don't even live in the States so I can't do this :(

Does this mean a new PSP2 is ready to come out - i.e. is the price drop a way to get rid of inventory?

There's really no sign of a new design. even if they are designing something new, it will probably take 1 year before you see it in production. as for now, PSP is great, I own one, loved the things I can do.
here's what PSP owners have to say to PSP second Anniversary.
"Hey Sony, here's my 3 wishes
1... More open content please? I want to be able to download UN-DRMed movies (with a fee) to my PSP and actually take advantage of my PSP massive screen.
2... $150 Core system please, just so people will stop buying so much DS and actually get into PSP in the first place.
3... GO BEG ENIX!!! Get that Final Fantasy Crisis Core out as soon as you can. Get your God of War PSP out NOW. and for god sake, Make sure you get Kingdom Hearts on PSP please.

Still way too much.
If they were $125 then I'd pick one up to hack around with. At $200 they're just silly.

wow where has everyone been??? this thing has been this price for over 1 month now at alot of other stores...
elvin @ Mar 24th 2007 12:10AM
the site only lists the core system
if they do have a new version in the pipeline, it would be nice to see them make it so that it could somehow interact with the ps3. maybe something like how the dreamcast controlers had the memeory card screen, and you could pick sports plays off of it.

Hell I'd pick up a PSP for $150. That price makes it palatable. But such a price drops is not going to happen so move on.

Guys, guys, it's only too much money if you either really can't scrape up $200 or if you haven't played one. I've got a DS too, ok, but I really love my PSP. I use it all the time, and not just for games. Put $20 toward a big memory card and you can do all sorts of stuff with it. Even more if you have a low version of the firmware (I don't, but it's worth noting).
That said, I do wish there were more killer games for it. And I, too, think a $150 core system would be a smart move on Sony's part, provided they start including a memory card (they don't with the core pack, right?).

Sony Style - PSP $200 + Game $30 - $100 Sony Card Credit = $130 for PSP with Game.
Done.
