Given that the last
Leopard rumor we heard was that it'd actually be shipping early (like,
this month), we're not sure how much stock should be put in this latest one, but according to DigiTimes, the word from "industry sources" is that the OS has now been postponed, all the way 'till October. Supposedly, the delay is necessary in order to add support for
Vista to the integrated version of
Boot Camp, which those same sources say Apple wants so it can increase its chances of grabbing more of that coveted PC market share. While we can't say if that's true or not, we are fairly confident that this won't be the last Leopard rumor we hear before its release, whenever that may be.

Sounds bogus to me. Why delay the launch 7 months just for bootcamp, which can be updated later. If you ask me, I'm guessing the launch will happen much sooner... like possibly tomorrow.... but that's just my uneducated guess. :-)
coyotej @ Mar 23rd 2007 4:52PM
Considering I was able to run Vista on my Mac Pro with no issues using the current release BootCamp, it's highly unlikely this is true. Even if they needed to support drivers for more Mac models, I don't think there's a problem that would push this out. Leopard just isn't yet at the point of stability or just plain being finished yet, according to what I've heard with the Developer seeds.
Nick @ Mar 24th 2007 3:55PM
Even my drivers CD for XP worked in Vista with a bit of tweaking (read: extracting) - my Macbook Pro core duo hummed along nicely in Vista.. until I realised what a piece of poop Vista actually is :]
moav @ Mar 23rd 2007 4:54PM
I say bogus too... Apple wouldn't put that much weight on Windows. This is the stupidist thing I've heard in a long time and it's not even April 1st
fdsa @ Mar 23rd 2007 8:36PM
Because you and I know as well as Jobs that Vista > OSX.
Aron Trimble @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:00PM
Vista incompatibility didn't stop iTunes... why would it stop Leopard?
Chris Eagan @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:03PM
That seems dumb. Vista is basically crap anyway. Who would want to run that?
wei @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:07PM
these leopard release date rumors are getting tiresome, but this one is definitely the most silly.. pushing all the way back to october to get bootcamp to do something it can already do would suggest apple has a bunch of monkeys typing in their code..
i was hoping for a march release, but it looks like we'll be seeing it launch in june somewhere close to wwdc
Johnny @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:14PM
LOL... What a ridiculous rumor.
Otsego @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:22PM
Im pretty sure Apple isnt going to consider Microsoft in the release of their new OS. What a load of crap.
Rolf Shervey @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:52PM
Michael, did you read this stub? This is an unconfirmed rumor, and it does not originate from Apple. Your post that "Hmm, it seems that when Microsoft delays Vista, Apple just has to make fun of them." is pretty ridiculous given how long Vista was delayed- and Leopard hasn't even been really delayed yet, we just don't know when it will be released, but Apple has said all along a spring '07 release date.
Other people are making fun of MS this time, not Apple. (though they may be external Apple fans)
Otsego @ Mar 23rd 2007 8:02PM
um, im not michael.
michael @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:33PM
Hmm, it seems that when Microsoft delays Vista, Apple just has to make fun of them. However, when Apple delays the intro to Leopard a bit, they immeadiately blame Microsoft. Exactly how can a company be so wrong at doing everything, and another company be just so perfect? Maybe it isn't what it always seems.
danus @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:48PM
Noones blaming anyone jackass. Digitimes is simply stating they believe Leopard is delayed because Apple wants to better implement Vista support.
Jt Hollister @ Mar 26th 2007 2:35AM
A) I'd say the wait for Vista was a teeny tiny bit more ridiculous at five years (it was done in 2002*).
B) It's a RUMOR. It's not even true (it's complete bullshit).
C) Apple started developing in 2006, and they still haven't announced a release date, so they aren't "delaying" anything.

From the original source:
AppleInsider reiterates that DigiTimes' coverage of Apple has been historically inaccurate and therefore its reports should be taken with a grain of salt.

I think that statement alone should give everyone an indication on this rumor.
Andir3.0 @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:38PM
When I can install OSX on my home built PC without strange hacks and workarounds, I will consider it. Until then Mac will have to be happy with marginal market potential. :(
Jt Hollister @ Mar 26th 2007 2:53AM
I don't think you realize that for Apple, it would be suicide. The company would survive off of iTunes and iPods, maybe the new AppleTV, but their computer market would go down the drain. Some people only buy Apple computers for the OS. They would lose many, many people, and never be able to get them back. Yes, I would love to be able to put OS X on a PC. At the same time, I don't want to see Apple die, and that takes presidance.
Jason @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:39PM
Yeah, maybe it seems like "rumors"? Apple didn't say anything, michael.
Sean O @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:46PM
Digitimes has a 0% track record for rumors. This rumor a multilayered load of BS. Let's look at the layers:
1. Apple will not wait until October to release it for any reason. They have new Pro Apps being announced April 15th, and the last Tiger update just came out last week. If there are bugs or issues, they will fix them or hold off on some features.
2. Even if they did wait till October (which they won't), it would't be to get people to use Vista on it. Totally preposterous. But let's assume Apple does want to capture Vista users. WTF does that have anything to do with the release of Leopard. Boot Camp has nothing to do with Leopard. It's a boot loader and a set of drivers. It doesn't run within Mac OSX, and it has nothing to do with Mac OSX.
3. Boot Camp already works with Vista using alternative drivers.
4. Paralles and VMWare work with Vista.
What is really happening here is stock price manipulation and I hope someone goes to jail for it.
The way Apple keeps everything so secret has created a community of people who constantly speculate and read rumor sites. This phenomenon has allowed unscrupulous people to "leak" bogus info in order to make a quick buck day trading. And it probably worked. Apple's stock was down .44 today, despite the fact that the NASDAQ was up.
Martez @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:51PM
Well, that's twice that Engadget's made me fall out of my chair laughing today.
Yeah...itsEngadget...sowhat @ Mar 23rd 2007 5:57PM
Perpetual motion machine delayed yet again....Vista's fault.
Mystic @ Mar 23rd 2007 6:03PM
Vista already works with BootCamp. I doubt it takes an extra 6 months to workout what bugs there may be with Vista and Bootcamp.
Jesse @ Mar 23rd 2007 6:21PM
I have a feeling it will be delayed, but not because of bootcamp which has very little to do with Leopard to begin with:)
Scott @ Mar 23rd 2007 6:16PM
It would make no sense at all to delay shipping for Vista Boot Camp support. Patch it later if they want to have the official support. In addition, do people buy Mac's to run Windows? I would think people buy Macs to run the Mac OS. I only run Windows for IE testing, which just points out how much IE sucks.
Donnie @ Mar 23rd 2007 6:26PM
Apple always seems to release its 10.x.9 update shortly before the next version drops...that happened last week, so my guess is it won't be long now.
LongshotX @ Mar 23rd 2007 6:27PM
I heart Vista.
Alan @ Mar 23rd 2007 6:36PM
I didn't believe it when it came out this morning, and I really don't believe it now. Switch Report has debunked it totally with Vista's EULA thing. http://www.switchreport.com/srnote.php
Jesse @ Mar 23rd 2007 6:41PM
In all fairness, Safari isn't anything to write home about. I can't tell you how many hacks I have to do to make css and javascript play nice with Safari
Rick Lyon @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:01PM
Bootcamp can be updated in October. Leopard is $129. Apple will not wait to make money to add support to an app that can be updated any time. HAHA
alonzo @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:02PM
a bit offtopic, but why install windows to test websites in IE..?
check this: http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/index.php
mike @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:09PM
well if mac is god then why would they want to infect their computer with icky vista (besides to right click)?
Rolf Shervey @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:56PM
get yourself one of the ten-jillion (not a real #, but you get the point) two or 30 button (again, an exaggeration) mouse (or mice) out there and right click yourself to a bloody stump on your mac. Mac has supported right click context menus since historic times. (OS 9) You don't need windows to right click. I like my mac logitech mice or any other generic USB mouse I've ever used with my mac and its right clicking and scroll wheel, browser buttons goodness.
even the new apple mighty mice support right click! (even though it dosen't work for shit. Apple mice have always been pretty and that's about it...)
Sean O @ Mar 24th 2007 2:46AM
Seriously. How ignorant could someone be that thinks you can't right-click on a Mac.
I got nothing against Vista. I can't stand fanboys from either side. But get your friggin facts straight or you just end up looking like a complete idiot.
Jt Hollister @ Mar 26th 2007 3:13AM
A) MAC OS X (and even OS9) has always supported right clicking with a third-party mouse.
B) Apple hasn't sold one-button mouses for the past year.
Get your head out of your ass.
mike @ Mar 27th 2007 9:33PM
well if apples market share wasnt so small maybe i would know :)
Steve D. @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:39PM
10.4.9 -> 10.5 won't be long ;)
flink @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:50PM
Apple is tooooooooooo slow to release new products.
I vote that the Steve is too preoccupied with his stock options lawyer and nothing is getting okayed in a timely manner.
Jt Hollister @ Mar 26th 2007 3:13AM
The reason Apple's products are almost always completely superior to their competitor is because Apple does NOT rush things out the door. Things are produced in a fairly timely manner, yet everything is tested and everything works when it ships! People are generally less confused by new products every day, where Apple generally releases new products only when unnecessary. Instead, they release updates or upgrades. It is a superior way to do things. It's not slow, it's smart and better. I prefer waiting for Apple any day than buying something from Dell that I know will be replaced literally the next day.
R. C. @ Jun 11th 2007 3:03PM
Dosn't steve recomend replacing your ipod each year?
Jeff ODonnell @ Mar 23rd 2007 9:05PM
Rumor - UNTRUE - Vista currently the least used operating system on the planet. Likely to be the least adopted operating system on the planet for at least 12 months, possibly 3 years.
Jobs going to slow down his momentum - NOT!

i laughed when i saw this.

wow, just feels good knowing Apple is depended on Microsoft. This message is for Leo Laporte, "how do you like them apples?"
Ben @ Mar 23rd 2007 11:40PM
I glad this is looking like bogus because I'm thinking about buying an iMac just to avoid "upgrading" to Vista
Tom @ Mar 24th 2007 12:11AM
ummm who tells you have you to upgrade to vista?
and you don't need to buy a new computer to install a shiny new OS.
Kzelk4 @ Mar 24th 2007 12:30AM
dude...macs have right clicks
Macinjosh @ Mar 24th 2007 12:32AM
There is NO WAY IN HELL Steve Jobs is gonna delay Apple's OS just because of some Windows shortcomings. Sorry, this rumor is complete BS.
roach @ Mar 24th 2007 3:54AM
Apple depending on Window to sell OS...funny!
If's funny how Apple and followers constantly bash Windows, yet they add feature to make Window compatible with their machine. Just like how Apple and followers used to bash Intel CPU and now they end up using addapting it...uhmm the stuff we said shit about Intel...well, uhmm...it's all a lies, so...uhmmm...go to the forum and not bash intel...okeee!
Idiots!

I'm a linux user wanting to buy my first mac I want to dual boot linux not vista i dont see alot of users wanting to dual boot vista at least not in the near future given the fact no mac gfx cards has direct 10 support so all the gaming needs are under the xp umbrella. If leopard doesnt come out before my birthday i'm getting myself a pc!
