Samsung m620 to be christened "UpStage" for Sprint
So it won't be called the "Flipper" or the "Ultra Music" -- no, it seems Sprint wanted a name all its own for the very unique m620 musicphone from Samsung. When it launches at CTIA this week, the two-faced handset will get slapped with the name "UpStage," which in our opinion really doesn't convey the craziness of the phone's form factor appropriately -- but does give a nod to its unusually strong audio capabilities. As the Flash presentation points out, the UpStage's key features include touch-sensitive music controls, a 1.3 megapixel cam (which is shared with the phone side's face), stereo Bluetooth, built-in speakers for rockin' out the old-fashioned way, and microSD expansion. We're hoping that everyone is going to be able to waltz into their friendly local Sprint store in the next few days and pick up an UpStage of their own, but either way, expect some serious hands-on action from the floor of CTIA!

The phone has a screen and controls on each side, the camera works with both sides of the phone.
Trippin @ Mar 25th 2007 3:45PM
No thats not right... the camera does not work with BOTH sides of the phone... if you look at the picture you notice the small circle that is the camera in the top left of the phone.... its on the PHONE SIDE meaning where the number keypad is...
garbuhj @ Mar 25th 2007 2:50PM
It has a dedicated reset button. That's not a good sign.
dcny @ Mar 25th 2007 3:32PM
Where does the battery go, is the battery removable
Yubal @ Mar 25th 2007 4:26PM
ohhhhhh I see... if the camera is situated on the phone side, well that means one uses the bigger screen as the viewfinder. thanx! :D
HEADsoldier07 @ Mar 26th 2007 7:47PM
nope they just mean that you can control the camera from both sides.....for taking pictures of yourself and of other things with the other side of the phone.
Trippin @ Mar 25th 2007 4:36PM

got to be the best looking sprint phone! but they should rename it! upstage is too weak IMO
nix @ Mar 29th 2007 4:43PM
UpStage sounds like the perfect name to me, IF this phone is designed to be the successor to the original Samsung UpRoar phone (the M100) -- released in 2002 and one the first (if not the very first) cell phone with MP3 playback capabilities, released just before Nokia's NGage-like MP3 phone.
I wonder however how much internal memory this phone has.. I will have to check the specs.

1 big question? HOW MANY GIGS??? XD
and by the way... the phone looks a bit like the Yepp YP-T9... on the player side of course!

Anyone know if Samsung is going to spit out a GSM version?
waLLy @ Mar 26th 2007 3:23PM
They nixed the name "Flipper" because you KNOW Motorola's got the trademark for "FLPR" waiting in the wings.

Does anyone happen to know what to expect as far as the abilities of the regular phone features? For example, how well will text messaging, picture taking, internet using, e-mailing, etc. work? It seems like all articles and reviewers are concentrating on the music side (no pun intended), but the regular features are being overshadowed. I just hope that doesnt mean they wont work as well!
Thank you.
dani @ Mar 28th 2007 12:51PM
Oh yeah, and do you view your pictures/messaging/etc. on the screen on the music player side?
Thanks again.
Conor @ Apr 9th 2007 4:00PM
OK, so here's the deal. To Use the regular features it's necessary to flip back and forth using the "flip" button on the side. Seems annoying, but actually is pretty easy once you've toyed around with the phone enough. Also, Its called the Upstage because it's meant to upstage Apples new iPhone, which it does in the price range, but you can beat the iPhone.. yet, Mac would make so much more money if they made the phone universal instead of Just for Cingular, they always get the best phoness... :(. You can view everything on the music side, but if you want to type/dial or use the key pad for anything, you need to click flip and go over to the other side, type whatever you need, and then press flip again. Hope that cleared some of your questions up.

Bought saturday and will return it today. Tried to register 4 times in a 24 hour period. Would not except it's own code. If it will not perform as a phone what use is it.
