It looks like those not willing to settle for anything less than
1080p in a projector will soon have a slightly more bearable option at their disposal, with
Epson today announcing its 3LCD PowerLite Home Cinema 1080, apparently the first projector of its kind to hit the $3,000 mark. In addition to that desirable 1920 x 1080 resolution, the projector also boasts an impressive 12,000:1 contrast ratio, along with the requisite HDMI 1.3 connectivity, and Epson's trademark "AccuCinema" lens system. All of which would seem to put it squarely in line with Epson's pricier
1080p PowerLite Pro Cinema projector released earlier this year. Unfortunately, it looks like we'll have to wait for the official unveiling next week to actually get a look at the thing, although it won't be long after that before you can get your hands on it, with the projector set to be available from all the usual suspects sometime in April.

That's a bargain for the specs ... but let's see how it turns out.

It's interesting how expensive these things are....meaning you can get a 1080p TV for so much cheaper. The TV has a lot more going on as well as far as hardware and features. I suppose it has to with fitting the projector in such a small form factor.

Really?
A 100" tv is $60,000 currently, and a projector and 100" screen is 3500. I think it's a pretty good deal.
BTW, www.projectorcentral.com has one in for testing right now.

dude this looks like a bargain to buy, since DLP HDTVs suck no matter what when compared to LCDs, Plasmas, and Projectors.

What is the lumens? If it's at least 2000 lumens or higher, I'll upgrade my panasonic 720p AX100. If it's only 1000/1100 lumens I'll pass and wait for a brigher bargin 1080P projector.

Hopefully they post more info soon. I'd like to know how many lumens it puts out. I'd also like to know how wide the phsical projector is. I'm impressed that it says it will stay in focus edge to edge. (unlike others that have edge focus issues when using zoom) Perfect for HTPC !
If it's over 2000 lumens I'll upgrade my Panisonic 720P AX100 ASAP !
If it's only 1000/1100 lumens, I'll wait for the next sub-$3000 1080p projector

I'd never hesitate to get an Epson printer (the only time I didn't buy an Epson it broke after 2 months and I had to buy an Epson anyway) but are they any good at projectors.

Looks nice, and 12000:1 is surely impressive, especially considering how bad the typical projector is...

@ Jon - Do you really think you need 2000 lumens? 1200 Lumens is more than sufficient for a media room. Now if its in a business setting...thats a little different.

I know this is late, but I have this unit.
trimbandit; I don't know if you understand what you are talking about here.
It's plenty bright enough for me in economy mode onto a 150"+ image area. It looks awesome, though the focus isn't quite as tight as I'd like, otherwise, it works very well. I have a 50 ft HDMI cable from my PS3 to this 1080 projector.
You can buy 1080p TVs for cheaper, but it's definitely not the same size or experience. As set up, it feels like a nice personal theater, not just a big TV set.
