OCZ Trifecta SD card pulls triple duty
Although it's far from being the first USB-enabled SD card to grace store shelves, we're giving OCZ a bit of a break considering that its rendition of the multi-faceted flash card also handles microSD on the side. The aptly-dubbed Trifecta purportedly functions as any standard SD card should in your camera, PMP, or toilet, but it also acts as a flash card reader or USB thumb drive without any extra fuss. The three-in-one device will be shipping in both 1GB and 2GB flavors before any additional expansion via microSD, will sport a 66x read rate, and will be covered by a five-year warranty to boot. Unfortunately, we've no idea when to expect these little guys to actually arrive, nor how much they'll run when that day comes.

FWIW, something similar was done last year.

I'm not understanding this trend of using disc based speed ratings for flash storage.

Is this actually an SD card with an integrated microSD reader? The photo shows only capacity markings on the microSD card, making me think this is just a microSD to SD adapter with a USB connector to boot. A shame, really, but still useful (to people who for some reason use (micro)SD cards and don't have a card reader yet . . . )

I believe its a micro SD that doubles as a SD via the slot and can used as a USB reader as well.

wait... does the big white thing have built in memory?

It says it right in the article:
"The three-in-one device will be shipping in both 1GB and 2GB flavors before any additional expansion via microSD..."
1 or 2 GBs before anything extra.

If you read the actual article, the only memory storage is on the MicroSD card:
"The ultra-convenient Trifecta card combines the storage use of microSD with the ability to be converted into a standard SD card that can also be plugged into any USB port for quick access on your desktop or notebook."

Yes, the 'white thing' has either one or two gigs of built in memory, and then the micro-SD card can be added in to expand storage/be read off a conventional USB port.
