Olympus Stylus 1000 digicam gets reviewed
Olympus' Stylus 1000 quickly got lost in the mishmash of other digicams that the company unleashed alongside of it, but if you came away less than enthralled about the lower-end units of the bunch, fret not, as Imaging-Resource took time to single out the flagship device just for you. The ultracompact 1000 boldly proclaims its built-in Digital Image Stabilization care of a highly obvious sticker on the front of the enclosure, but reviewers found that the feature proved more like a gimmick, and deemed it quite the "disappointment." Nevertheless, the control interface, button layout, size, in-camera editing, and all-weather operation received a fair amount of praise, but the run-of-the-mill perks still didn't seem to outweigh the digs. Most importantly, the cam tended to produce "oversaturated colors and blow out highlights," didn't fare well in macro mode, and the paltry internal storage may as well have been excluded to save a few bucks. Still, the Stylus 1000 was dubbed the best of the lineup, but considering all the quirks that even this unit has, we'd highly recommend reading the in-depth analysis before plunking down your $400.

Olympus puts more money into their marketing department rather than R & D. But still...is it really true that the best Olympus' marketing department can put out are stupid stickers saying Digital Image Stabilization when consumers are getting smarter? Or are they targetting the Kodak/HP crowd?
$400 is too much to spend on a point and shoot camera in 2007.
How interesting...
I've had a little bit of a play with this camera (as well as the rest of the new Olympus line-up), but here in Australia we sell them under the model "Olympus Mju 1000". It's a good looking camera, well constructed and good value for money. Still, I would rather something like the Mju 770, waterproof to 10m (33ft).
It takes terrible pictures for $400.

er.. I must be missing something, the picture in that link looks great - what's wrong with it?
The image is very crisp but if you look at the background it should have shown the green leaves on the plant better. The black levels or contrast is not all that great. $400 no way try $200-250 for Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 5.0 MP Dig.
On the left side of the fire hydrant, the edges are are blurred and has a purple haze on it. The other pictures on the site from this camera does not look crisp to me. But if it works for you, I'm not stopping you from buying this camera.
