We've seen plenty of fashionphones, fashionlaptops and fashioncams in our day, but we're pretty sure the Moxia Energy folks behind
USBCELL have a first here: fashionbatteries. Not content with the mere novelty of the USBCELL USB-rechargeable AA battery design, Moxia now has plans to launch a "designer range" of colorful USBCELL batteries. Design Director Verity Wright just seemed to think it was a matter of time: "With virtually every other portable company launching fashionable pastel colored products, it's about time the Billions of AA Batteries inside caught up with the design and fashion concerns of modern consumers." No word on when these will go on sale, but you can head on over to the USBCELL site now to put in a request for color or tell Moxia just how exactly ridiculous and/or super-awesome you think this plan is.

Cool, I can charge my batteries at work using their electricity not mine! That beats the heck out of solar power!

I'll take the normal ones once they cost a reasonable amount. If they focused on lowering the price, they'd sell more than just making "designer" colors.

They cost 15 pounds for a pack of 4 AA in the UK. But again, the shop I went to (Currys.Digital) is famous of being not the cheapest one.

They're not the first fashion batteries:

Not really a huge first here, across the street from me, The Source by Circuit City (some weird thing CC launched in Canada after buying out Radioshack:( ), you can pick up Ni-MH batteries in a variety of themes, although the only one that sticks in my mind is Dora the Explorer. Not USB cells, granted, but fashion AAs (and AAAs, and C's and 9Vs, for that matter) aren't anything new.

Yea you can try to charge them at work... However they take 5 hours to charge. So I hope no one steals them from your work computer while you are at lunch...
Sorry But I'll stick to High Capacity 2200+mah batteries. Those USBCell things are only about 600mah!! I doubt those would run on my digital camera, RC Car or other stuff very long.

Oh great. I guess the next "chic" thing to do is to remove the covers from all your gadgets that take AA's.

Ummm... I got this PR release on April 1st. I feel that the date is significant. And if it isn't, it should be.

I actually have 2 USBCELL batteries myself, I bought them from ThinkGeek.com and they work great :)
When they're plugged into a usb port they flash to show that they're charging. After they're done they stop flashing and you can just put the cap back on and throw them in your closest AA-hungry appliance.

UNIVERSAL PLAYER, $19.95 USD @ thinkgeek.com ... For the current exchange rate of the British Pound, it'd be $21.71 USD from usbcell.com, but I believe they provide free shipping.
And Tavis Veighey, the site rates each at 1300mAH, again, mentioning that they are rechargeable. I use them in my 7MP Samsung Digimax A7 perfectly fine. Would you rather have your 2200mAH throw aways, or be environmentally friendly? :)

@Joe:
I think he's referring to 2200mAh _rechargeables_.
I've seen AA NiMh rechargeables at 2800 or 2900mAh before.
Personally, I use a USB powered AA/AAA charger. Takes less than 5 hours to charge two, _and_ it only uses a single USB port for two.
