DS-Xtreme bumped to 2GB, costs as much as a DS
It's just always gotta be "more, more, more" with you, doesn't it? Never content with the 512MB DS-Xtreme homebrew cart your mother brought you into the world with, you've gotta go for a whole 2GB to house your various homebrew, ROMs, game backups and musics. Well, we're right there with you, and that's why we're happy to report that the DS-X folks have released a 2GB version of their homebrew companion, for the hefty sum of $130. Hey, nobody said being pirate user of legitimately acquired ROMs, backups and homebrew was cheap.

Insane price, considering an R4 with 2Gb microSD is going for about $60.
I use an M3 Perfect Lite, which is a fraction of the cost and runs on MicroSD cards. The M3 Simply provides the same functionality as this for MUCH cheaper, and it also runs on MicroSD cards.
BTW, mine was to run DSLinux, DSBlue, DS2Key, and DSOrganize, and to try all the new Kanji recognition homebrew apps coming out.
Wasn't that the price of the original model? That's what kept me away.
can the DS play MAME??
SuperCard accepts microSD as a form of storage. so 2GB isnt that impressive.
Yeah i have an R4 and it technically has unlimited storage. The only thing that limits the storage is how many micro sd cards you buy and what size they are.
I also have an R4 with a 2GB microsd card, total cost of everything was around $50 ^_^
I don't know why this one keeps getting coverage. R4 and M3 Simply are the best ones on the market at a fraction of the price. Not to mention that 1gb MicroSD cards are $10 shipped these days with no rebate hassle.
R4 for me thanks.
M3simply here too. It doesn't have flashy leds but at $40 bucks I like it the way it is.
I have the 512mb DS-X. It's pretty damn good compatibility wise, but It's expensive yes
i have an R4 and its the best damn thing out there. it accepts microSD so your storage is only limited to as large a microSD you can get your hands on.
Agree with everyone above. The DS-X isn't that impressive, and owning an M3 Simply myself, I have to say that price point wise, this thing is way out in left field. Why anyone would buy this over a $45 M3 or R4 plus a $20 1GB MicroSD is beyond me.
I never knew that the DS had this kind of capability. Anyone have some good resources describing how it works and what the benefits/disadvantages are of this model, as well as the others discussed in this thread? It'd be awesome to be able to play all my games with one memory card instead of having to carry the carts with me (similar to a jukebox).
No Thank You!!!
I'll stick with a SuperCard and a SuperKey.

I have their SD one, and I can get 2gig SD Cards for $15.99! That way I have "Unlimited" storage! And I am comming close, I have 9 2gig cards with various roms on it. NES, GB, GBC, GBA, Sega Mastersystem, and loads of Homebrew!
The DSX isn't very good at all. It was fine if it was the only choice, but it's not. R4DS does the same thing at a much lower cost, you just have to supply the MicroSD cards. No problems there.
This was posted on Gizmodo and Engadget, which makes me think that it was just paid advertising for DSX. It's not likely both websites would really want to post about this.
... or the blogging community is a new free source of advertising for a company willing to send out the links ...
I use the R4 along with a 2gb card, cost $65 total....this is a ripoff.
flash carts are so worth it. i bought a gba one for 100 bucks and i havent bought/rented a game since. still kickin 2 years later too. these are very good investments
Just preordered it! Drag and drop emulation , no bios flash, no passme, almost 100% compability, plus EXTREME ease of use = worth the money in my book :D
Same as any other major competitors slot one solution flash cart guy (i.e. R4, M3 Simply, SuperCard One).
@mcheddadi
Dude, listen to everyone else. Everything you just said comes with the R4 for about $35. Just supply your own microSD card. Drag-n-drop, no patching, no flashing, nothing. Best damn card on the market. I used to use the Super Card/Cart but the R4 owns it at a fraction of the price
2GB? YAAAAAWN! Quote from Divineo: "And one good news never coming alone, we are also taking preorder for the huge 16Gb version, available end of this month."
Yes my friend, you read correctly, 16GB.

Reread your post. 16Gb = 2GB, not 16GB.
The R4 is the best one out there. With all the other devices on the market that take SD cards of some sort, they have to pass the castlevania test which tests if your micro/mini/SD card is FAST enough to play DS roms. The R4 doesn't matter if your card is some cheap hong kong shit. Therefore R4 is the best.
R4 Slot-1 All-In-One w/ 2GB Micro SD Card = $119.95

DS-Xtreme 16Gb DS-X $124.99 - 5.00$ (with coupon FR0325DN969) = $119.95

I don't understand what you guys are talking about... its the same price for the same capacity (2GB)
that's because that one is bundled, you can get a micro for much cheaper than they are charging for it, as well as an r4.
not to mention that you don't have to settle for a 2gig, as sizes increase you can get a bigger one as well, with the ds-x, you are stuck at 2gigs, and you are paying more money to be stuck as so.
"pirates".....
piracy is bad :)
as much as it's great with homebrew and illegalz r0oms, it's still expensive as hell.
Another one for the R4 crowd here, I just got mine today. Way cheaper, and better compatibility and stuff from what I've heard. This thing is a complete ripoff. I got an R4 for $40 from realhotstuff.com SHIPPED IN THREE DAYS and I ordered a 1GB microSD for $8 plus $1 shipping O_o from amazon.com. I was originally planning on just waiting for a good sub $10 deal at Fry's, but I figured I might as well get this one since $15 is still pretty good for 1GB. Total cost for 1GB was $60, and then if you want a 2GB is only a couple bucks more. Ability to swap out cards is great too, and you can use this for other purposes too I assume, like in a camera or phone, or even as a USB mass storage device with the tiny USB adapters. I'm only afraid I'll lose it, it's so damn tiny. Well, haven't actually seen a microSD card physically yet, but the slot for the thing is like the size of my pinky's fingernail.
Oops, meant $7 shipping, kind of weird when the shipping almost costs as much as the product eh?
Grr, that last post was by me but engadget/joystiq's commenter saving system seems to remember the username I used when I first posted a long time ago, which I don't use anymore.
R4 all day!
no 16Gb not 16GB 16Gb is 2GB
Also not worth it. M3 Simply $45 2gig MSD card $30
$75 plus shipping of $5

R4 for me too. Works perfectly.
you dumb f**ks:
16Gb == 2GB == $130
2Gb (micro SD) == 512MB == $35
Now 2000/512 == 4
Therfore to get 16Gb of SD = 4*35 = $140 (Thats without R4 or M3) !!
A 512MB sd card for $35 is a major rip off.
$35 will get you a 2GB (with a capitol B) + a SD Adapter included
