Look at that kid, glaring at the road ahead -- he knows he's a badass, no need tell him that his Radio Flyer trike is pretty much the greatest child-related conveyance since Big Wheels became the pedal-powered vehicle of choice for outlaw tricycle clubs. Instructibles member jongarrison modded this trike with a broken old saw for a motor, a new power tool batter, bungee cords and some safety-scoffing exposed wiring and let her rip. The "chopper" can hit walking speed, and jongarrison is considering gearing it down or adding a speed control of sorts. As if you could slow this kid down.

Engadget is getting more and more family oriented.
elliotduh @ Apr 10th 2007 8:23PM

Man I wish I had that bad boy when I was a kid...

I think the kid would be happier with rocket boosters.

I am soooo making one of those for my kids (when I have them that is). Still missing the critical ingredient of the wife :D.

power tool???
Exposed Wire???
Bungee lines???
What could possibly go wrong there??? Tell me people!

Well unless theres only one rear wheel (a distinct possibility) I see two front wheels making it not a trike. I did this on my own with a radio flyer wagon when I was a kid. I used a drill though, and I did have speed control. As well as passenger space :-P
Still thats pretty freakin awesome, considering "power wheels" are in the $500s range nowadays.

Clearly, the creation of a dad while Mom is out of town for the weekend. It won't survive her return :)

If I had made it, it'd have two old skilsaws in the back with the blades replaced with tires. Baby's First Chopper, followed of course by Baby's First Trip to the ER

Niiiice.
Well i was poor when i was a kid....me and my friends would ride grocery karts down grass hills and steep roads...the crashes werent soo bad if you had 3 other kids in the cart to cuchion the fall...

Gaurav- My thoughts exactly. The kid doesn't walk anywhere, now he won't be peddling anywhere. Then he comes home and sits on the couch and plays video games, then goes to his room and plays on the computer.
oscar @ Apr 11th 2007 2:45PM
did anyone else notice....I think that "trike" is on top of a table.

Safety-scoffing exposed wiring isn’t the problem as I see it, it’s the totally exposed pinch point between the roller and the wheel. Even if the bungee mounting system has enough give to prevent crushing injuries there’s a serious danger of loose clothing getting wrapped around the roller.
