P.S. -For those confused about why the Xbox 360 wasn't nominated for 2006 Game Console of the Year, that's because it was announced, launched, and released in 2005. Did we mention it also won both Readers' and Editor's Choice Engadget Awards for best console, as well as Editor's choice for 2005 Gadget of the Year, too? Good, glad we cleared that up.

oddly enough, still the best console of 2006.
but i guess it's not fair since PS3 and Wii only got to show their stuff for a month and a half.
GP2X was launched in 2005, the MK2 part is only the software revision. It's the same thing as if you put the Xbox 360 Spring dashboard update.
Actually no. The hardware revision was relatively minor, but it was a hardware revision all the same. http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/15/first-round-of-2006-engadget-awards-polls-closing-tonight/
Dominated by Apple. Shock.
It's about quality products.
What would you expect? Microsoft [Zune]? Sony? Lenovo?
Cellphones: how very fair & balanced. Where the hell is Nokia?
Nokia didn't have a great year for launches. We did nom the N93 in smartphones though!
I still think you're neglecting the Nokia N73 - which gave the K800i a run for its money here in the UK.
I would have voted for the Nokia N80 should it have been listed, it was released in '06, and is one hell of an amazing smartphone.
re: Smartphone. You had the the craptastic Treo 700 and the Moto Q but no Samsung BlackJack? Whaddupwitdat?!?
This is solid proof that Engadget readers on average still don't know crap about what is good/bad in the tech world.
iPod shuffle should be in the "Wearable Device" category. If it didn't have that built-in clip, it would've been just as boring as the original Shuffle.
I think the best GPS device is the upcoming Navigon 7100.

Navigon has the best software and the device looks really cool. So why isn’t it in the poll?
Ups, I guess because it's called "2006 Engadget Awards", stupid.
Purely from a value-to-the-winners point of view, isn't it a bit odd to dole out the '2006' awards in the middle of 2007? Anyone who didn't understand the format would think, 'Why are they still shouting about an award they picked up last year?'. Just a thought.
How do you like them Apples????
STEVE JOBS, FTW.
