WWDC Jobsnote to run three hours?
As the days grow longer and Mother Nature finishes shaking off the last remnants of a cold, dark winter, a young man's fancy naturally turns to Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference starting June 11th, and if a recent update to the gathering's official site proves accurate, this year's keynote is gonna be a doozy. Apple Insider points out that the newly-posted WWDC schedule shows a three-hour chunk of time blocked out for the Monday morning Jobsnote -- a mighty feat even for such a seasoned public speaker -- which could indicate an unusually long speech filled with Leopard revelations, shiny new toys, and lots of "un-be-lievables." Still, no matter what goes down, the main takeaway here is that we may be in for three straight hours of liveblogging. Have fun, Ryan!

Update: Apple called to let us know that there was a typo on the schedule page, and the keynote is actually 10-11:30AM -- so an hour and a half, not three hours. Somewhere Ryan just let out a huge sigh of relief. (Apple also mentioned Jobs wasn't guaranteed to present, but c'mon, he wouldn't really hold out on us like that, would he?)

I don't know about you, but I've noticed that Steve Jobs is getting more and more like classic Shatner. The funky outfits, the melodramatic simpleton talk, and the stop-motion speaking manner. Maybe the next time they do speech analysis on a Jobs keynote, they can include average words between dramatic pauses.
Whatever he's doing though, people like it and his toys...
I wish people (including myself) didn't respond more fervently to drip-feed information like this rather than a simpler announcement. A couple hours after there's always a summary of these sorts of things, and they are rarely a fraction of the content of the speaker's notes.
"As the days grow longer and Mother Nature finishes shaking off the last remnants of a cold, dark winter, a young man's fancy naturally turns to Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference...."
Hilarity!
Anyway, I sure hope that he's got a bunch of goodies up his sleeves, because 3 hours is a long time for anybody. Jobs or no Jobs.
Ryan Block's "play by play" is great - but the super snotty, sarcastic "preamble" is the funniest:
10:49am - Some event handler asked us to close our laptops and put away our cameras! As if!
10:58am - Whoops! Already we've got a flub.
11:06am - "Ladies and gentlemen, as a reminder, there is no recording of today's event." Umm, ok.
I totally agree--I used to watch Apple's keynote webcasts and was bored out of my seat. Reading the engadget take, I get the same info but laugh my ass off.
Dude I know!
Hey Engadget, is there a way to chop up Ryan's individual one-liners and port them out to their own RSS feed or to Twitter? That way we could have Ryan's comments and none of the boring "corporate double speak".
Haha! I'll leave it up to you guys to figure out how that's done. Liveblogging is hard enough as it is!
^^^It's like talking about what's happening in the movie in the theatre and no one's mad.
Does this mean that the Apple store is goign to be down that long? That's usually the case. I want to spend my money as soon as the products are announced.
sheesh.
I dont give a damn how long it is, I'll be watching the whole thing.
So that's 30 minutes to talk about iPod sales, 135 minutes to talk about the iPhone, and 15 minutes to talk about Leopard.
Jokes aside, I think it's going to be 3 hours precisely because of Leopard.
Sounds like an iPod 6G announcement's coming... and not a moment too soon.
Counting how many times he says "boom" is going to be exhausting!
And I just know he's doing a "one more thing" about the 6G iPods, like Jeff just said.
As long as it wont be an Amelio-style, 3 hour, droneathon, then I'm sure it will be interesting....
okay that means its gonna take me hell load of time downloading this wwdc!!!
what ever i don't mind as long as steve's on stage
3 hours? they are ussually only an hour at wwdc. i know, i watch them. This is how i think it is going to go down
1) extensive leapard preview
2) Wide-touchscreen video ipod (3 to 4 inch screen, like iphone without the phone)
3) iPhone launch
4) New line of laptops and desktops
5) ipod nano update, (maybe?)
6) unlikely, yet possible: ipod shuffle with a black and white lcd
7) 2 months never felt so far away.
I bet he will announce Leopard is going to ship that day. He just wanted to throw everyone off a few weeks ago so it would be a surprise when he announced it.
3 hours! He's going to need to divert some more OSX resources to develop a next gen sweat free skivvy (black, of course) so that he can go the distance.
This is actually a mistake. The key-note is only an hour and a half.
And the whole blogosphere goes crazy over a typo that was only out there for a few hours...
I like Apple products as much as the next man, but come on guys. Take a breath and think a minute. There's other stuff going on in the world that might be important between now and the middle of June.
Apple calls you guys after you post something? Can we talk about that?
Yeah, we work closely with Apple as we do with a large number of companies. It's no secret that even Jobs reads us daily.
There is absolutely no way a new widescreen, touch-screen iPod will be released at WWDC.
It would cannibalize sales of the iPhone.
In October, after the iPhone has selling well for 5 months, Apple will release new iPods.
Controlling public perception is important and it is important to Apple that people believe the iPhone is selling well.
In October Apple can announce how spectacular iPhone sales have been and not have to worry about cannibalizing it's sales.
October will also be in time to refresh the iPod line up for the Christmas season when they sell the most.
I beleive Apple will announce a tablet mac.
Well however long it is I just hope he announce the video iPod the iPhone does not have memory for 1 gig movies.
