PlayStation Network users, were you lucky enough to get in on the
PlayStation Home Beta test invite yet? Apparently not everyone who applies will be accepted (shocker, right?), but it's good to know at least there's some movement in
PS3rd Life Home process. Let us know if you get an invite, and definitely let us know if you get accepted.
P.S. -Sorry, we don't have a link to share at this time, the invites seem to be per-user.
[Thanks, Dustin]

why do I have to be over 18??? The most retarded rule of all time. Are they expect some kind of nude scene or adult content going on between users?
AndrewNeo @ Apr 25th 2007 10:11PM
If there's an NDA, as a minor you can't sign yourself under that contract.
king @ Apr 25th 2007 9:42PM
Got this earlier today. Just signed up :D
thaylinsgate @ Apr 25th 2007 9:47PM
I got my invite and have signed up. Just hoping to be picked
Ian @ Apr 25th 2007 9:47PM
GOT IT!!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG!
I've really been looking forward to trying this out, and I hope they pick me! If they do, and if there's no "you-can't-tell-anybody" sort of agreement, I'll share what I find out! :)
Zeus the God @ Apr 25th 2007 9:47PM
Well, I hope this helps the PS3 turn out to be something good, because right now it's not worth the 600 smackaroos. Even some good games would be nice...
Big @ Apr 25th 2007 9:56PM
If you analyze any one feature of the PS3 it IS worth the money.
Blu Ray players typically cost $1000 which makes PS3 $400 cheaper.
The Internet Browser makes the PS3 a decent Web TV system for the price. You can also write up documents on it and print them out by the way if you need a small word processor. I do this regularly.
The game front is weak right now but that will change soon. We still have MGS4, GTA4, and Warhawk to look forward to. Ps3 is of course the only 1080p system out now, considering you'd have to rebuy your 360 (the Elite) to get that extra resolution.
LiQuiD_FuSioN @ Apr 25th 2007 9:49PM
Is it sent to your inbox on the PS3 or something? I looked just now and didn't see anything. :(
Mark @ Apr 25th 2007 10:41PM
You need to stop brainlessly repeating what others say and get the facts straight. You do NOT need the elite version to do 1080p. 1080p is available over both component (although some TVs do not support this) and VGA. I don't want blu-ray or hd-dvd. I'll wait until I can get it for the sub-150 price. As for using it to browse the web and write up documents, I have a computer for that. Did I mention how much the Cell sucks for general purpose computing? Or the lack of a Office2007 for PS3? At any rate, the graphics on my computer are already superior to what the PS3 and X360 can offer. It further more has a mouse+keyboard which is an absolute must for FPS's and RTS's. You can all take your consoles and shove em.
McGinley @ Apr 26th 2007 3:17AM
Well all that is about the ps3 is true, but it isn't a system for everyone.A lot of people buy it JUST for the gaming, not for word processing or web browsing,as there are better cheaper solutions available. And you only have to rebuy a 360 if you had one in the first place.
Cole @ Apr 25th 2007 10:01PM
The over 18 rule is probably in place so Sony can bind you to an NDA (in the sign up form it states the NDA you must agree to).
Ian @ Apr 25th 2007 10:06PM
Well, like I said, if there's an NDA, which there probably is, my lips are sealed. Makes me sad :(

Anyone who can't spell or use simple proper English should not be eligible for the beta! Sorry Paul, this means you.
Andrew @ Apr 25th 2007 10:36PM
How do you get an invite? what is it based on? I'm probably one of the few people (from what I have seen) that stuck by my sony loyalism, after root kits, delays, over-hype, etc.
man it would be nice for them not to send this to all the xbox fanboys haha
Danger @ Apr 25th 2007 10:38PM
I'm lost to what the invite is actually for? As you can tell i'm not a
PS3 owner, just curious what this is all about.

never mind guys i think this is just for people who are in th game advisory panel. gay
pleiades @ Apr 25th 2007 11:38PM
if you are unable/unwilling to take advantage of what's being offered to you, then that's your problem.
people living in some 3rd world countries might as well go complain to the TV makers that they spent $1000 on a fancy brick because they don't have electricity running through their house.
Big @ Apr 25th 2007 11:39PM
Your argument is WEAK.
First of all, The Xbox360 DOES NOT SUPPORT TRUE 1080p. I know because I have one.
It takes more than just a firmware update to get true 1080p through its component/RCA cables.
Furthermore, I HAVE A PS3.
The Blu Ray player works GREAT - I have 4 movies on mine thus far and I plan to purchase a BR disc each time I buy a DVD.
The word processor on PS3 works good and printing is simple.
I know Computer graphics are superior to consoles, BUT, you've gotta spend big money on video/sound cards to get the experience a 360 or a PS3 offer.
Perfect Example is RAINBOW 6 VEGAS.
You can't even play that game on the PC without a special video card. And even if you have the hardware to play it, you face PC cheating/online issues and you have to spend more money to get the experience Xbox Live costs you.
CONSOLES OWN THE FUTURE OF HIGH-END GAMING.

Got my invite - PlayStation Underground member.
steve wright jr @ Apr 25th 2007 11:11PM
I got the invite tonight
Zeus the God @ Apr 25th 2007 11:37PM
Umm, well, for the majority of us who don't care about HD movies, when we buy a game system, we want to play games... The PS3 doesn't meet those needs, therefore, is not worth the money. Yes, it does have Blu-Ray, but it's also not near the same quality as the stand-alone players. The reading speed is slow (8x), and besides, a lot of us don't want to buy a player for an unstable format.
Thanks, but no thanks.
Kev50027 @ Apr 26th 2007 10:45AM
You don't know what you're talking about. An 8x Blu-Ray player is FAR faster than an 8x DVD player in terms of data. The drive on the PS3 spins slowly, which contributes to it's quiet nature, yet it can still pull TONS of data (288Mb/s) from the disk.
myscrnnm @ Apr 25th 2007 11:40PM
Nice, just signed up.
Zeus the God @ Apr 25th 2007 11:43PM
Oh yeah... Big, one last thing, there is such a minuscule difference between 1080i and 1080p. Really, you guys are just brainwashed. The only difference is the refresh rates alternate, and in video games, that is actually a bit better. 1080p is a little more sharp in the resolution area, but since it also takes more power to produce that quality, it slows down framerates, not to mention the fact that with the extra clarity, you will notice more of the games defects in graphical detail than the good aspects. Really, 1080i does the both of both worlds. Great clarity, better performance, and great picture. Really, 1080p isn't a selling point. It's just a marketing scheme used by major companies to make people think their product is better.
Zeus the God @ Apr 25th 2007 11:51PM
Oh, again, you are wrong. Why do you think the PS3's Blu-Ray player is so cheap? Because it's bottom of the line hardware, that's why.
In that first post, I never even mentioned 1080i or 1080p, but I guess you can go out on a tangent if you wish...
Xbox LIVE is everything that PS3 online is AND MORE. Plain and simple. If you pay more for a product, chances are it's going to be better. In this case, that is true (for the online aspect). You get MUCH more support with a unified friends list, great video communication capabilities, a HUGE library of downloads, great support from officials OR other members, you have community forums, gaming events and all that good stuff. You see, Microsoft focused on the gaming aspect of the system. They didn't go for the Jack of all trades ideal like Sony did with the PS3, just so they could push another proprietary format (Blu-Ray).
Now, you couldn't be ANY more wrong on that last part of your post. PCs ARE the future of high-end gaming. Look, you already have video cards out that trump BOTH of these systems ten-fold, and not to mention... Wait for it... Wait for it! You can run Linux... Oh, and Windows... Yeah, so, I play computer games, and you definitely get what you pay for. PC is far better than consoles will EVER be.
Nathan @ Apr 25th 2007 11:54PM

kinda gay though i can never finish the surveys from the PSU on my mac:( I had to use my dads PC to do it it irritated me so thats why im blowing off my steam to yalls

Zeus the God @ Apr 25th 2007 11:56PM
PCs also offer thousands more options as far as features go. The online cheating bit... Bah, with programs like Steam with its VAC and PunkBuster being supported in almost all the major titles, cheating is a rarity. Also, the modding is unfathomable. Creating game types in a game like CS:S or Halo with low gravity, user created weapons, ENDLESS amounts of maps, and so far, consoles will never have this kind of support.
Aaron @ Apr 26th 2007 1:01AM
I got mine in the inbox and I registered. I'm unsure if you need to be just a registered member of the playstation site or a GAP member. I'm a GAP member, by the way. I hope I get in!

"PS3rd Life" Oh how I giggled, I'm sure Linden is giggling too. ;)
Geir E @ Apr 26th 2007 3:13AM
Console vs PC in the context of gaming is comparing 'the hardware dictates the frame' vs 'the developers dictate the frame'. For the hardcore gamer the PC has the most power and the ultimate 'game experience'. but it comes at a premium price. So for everybody else Consoles do have an edge in quality vs price. Plus it makes the developers try to be less lazy. With restrictions in hardware they have to each release try to be better than the last instead of just use a little more clock cycles than last time.
I was a active gamer on the c64 and Amiga, but now I'm more interested in the technology behind. I'd love to build a homebrew game for the ps3 though. Feel free to deliver a sdk for everybody, Sony.
jimhuf @ Apr 26th 2007 3:50AM
Shocker sony not getting Europe involved in anything but spending their money.
and all this talk of a NDA on a public beta, get real, is that to make you feel like your special.
Goosestaf @ Apr 26th 2007 4:12AM
U.S and caanada only. . . . nice one sony
dustandechoes91 @ Apr 26th 2007 7:47AM
To get beta tests from sony, you had to:
1.Create an account
2. A.Register your PSP and say you play online to get PSP beta tests
B.Register your PS2 and Network Adapter to get PS2 betas
C.Register your PS3 and say you play online
3. Select That you wish for them to send you infor on betas
4. Wait, you will be randomly selected eventually
It also helps to be a member of the gamer advisory panel, some betas are even gap exclusive. I have yet to figure out how they send out gap invites, i think its pretty random.
Andrew @ Apr 26th 2007 12:25PM
@Zues the dog
I like your quote, which is VERY correct:
Plain and simple. If you pay more for a product, chances are it's going to be better.
Thank you. You are ABSOLUTELY correct, the PS3 IS better.

I wonder, did those of you who got the invite download the video off the store? maybe that's how they are picking people because I didn't and I haven't gotten an invite yet.
dustandechoes91 @ Apr 26th 2007 4:51PM
i didnt download the video, and i got it. As long as youve got ur ps3 registered and have recieved a beta invite for something else before you should have gotten an invite

This message is for Zeus the God:
I just wanted to clarify the real difference between 1080i and 1080p. You previously stated that faster refresh rates are better for games. That's true, but you implied that 1080i allows for faster refresh rates... ?? Come on buddy! 1080i and 1080p both refresh at the same speed - the difference is that 1080p is progressive and 1080i is interlaced. If you think the difference between the two is negligible then you certainly don't have a TV capable of 1080p. If you're running a PS3 with all its bells and whistles on a P.O.S. television you're kind of defeating the purpose. Considering you mentioned component video and how you 'are doing just fine' with it, I am confident that you don't know what you're talking about. Component video can't support 1080i or 'p.' It sounds like you don't even understand the concept of interlacing; it's not necessarily noticable with slow moving content, but any abrupt changes to the screen produce horizontal bars on the screen - very distracting and, without a doubt, hazier than 1080p. What you said about refresh rates is essentially the opposite of the truth. If you think interlaced is better you're naive - but if you like it so much consider that HDMI an 1080p is twice the data. Theoretically if there was content that supported it you could run the same connection and interlace a higher resolution... "2160i" Cool .. but useless. If I had to choose between 1080i and 720p I would definitely choose 720p simply because it's sharper and more precise. 1080i is just a cheap excuse to promote a crappy product and overcharge confused consumers like yourself. Pshh - so next time just don't say anything unless you actually have some valuable knowledge to share instead of just bitching about how you feel cheated. Okay, awesome.
Howard @ May 6th 2007 4:15AM
Some facts PS3 can support mods eg Unreal 2007 Blu-rays are selling in a 3 to 1 ratio to Hddvd with blu-ray winning I am writing this on my PS3 The 360 is good for one thing Gears of WarA future firmware update will upsale DVDs to 1080p You can upgrade your hard drive to 120G for as little as £65 How much is the 360s I think i made my point
