Clearwire gets FCC nod to release WiMAX-class laptop card
Things are lookin' up in the WiMAX arena, as the oft stubborn FCC has reportedly given a green light to Clearwire to produce "the first WiMAX-class laptop card to connect to the Clearwire network." Of course, we've seen pre-WiMAX cards hit other continents and witnessed quite a bit of high talkin' at 3GSM, but now that the Commission has granted its final approval on this iteration, it won't be long before users here in the US can test things out. In an attempt to deliver "true wireless broadband with a device that facilitates even greater portability than the firm's existing modem permits," the forthcoming PCMCIA Type II card will utilize Motorola's Expedience wireless access system, but unfortunately only seems to play nice with Windows XP and Vista for now. Still, folks within a Clearwire service area should really start saving those pennies, as the currently unpriced card should be landing sometime "during the second half of this year."[Via TGDaily]

Just don't expect to be pulling yout torrents down.. they've got the hole plugged tight.
The truth about clearwire - http://www.clearwiresucks.com
If clearwire is doing it then that means others will start doing it just to compete, which means this technology will come to vast reality mush sooner than if they had never endeavored.
Your wrong about the torrents, mate. I just got clearwire a week ago, and have been downloading off bittorrent none stop. Probably downloaded about 30GB by now. The upload speed sucks though, so don't plan on being a super-seeder while using clearwire.
Really clearwire was my best bet for internet service. In my area, my options are comcast cable which is like $100/month with tons of sign-up fees and charges (comcast has a monopoly in my area and is prone to breakdown and bogging), dsl which costs about $30/month but I need a phone line which costs another $30/month, dail-up which I get free from school but I still need a phone line and it is slow as hell. So for $40 a month and $50 sign-up, I get dsl speeds and it is portable.
I can't wait till this card comes out. I will no longer have to worry about getting a wifi signal (or stealing one).
I sell clearwire, and as a user of it also, its better than waiting for the phone or cable company to come to your house just to install the modem.
I can't wait for the laptop cards to come. I just hope they'll have a similar system in place for desktops.
