HTC's
Asian outpost Dopod has officially announced two of its corporate parent's more hotly-anticipated models today -- the
Vox and the
Cavalier -- in the form of the C500 and
C730, respectively. The C500, which has already seen retail duty in Europe as the
Orange SPV E650, is arguably the more unique of the two with a spring-loaded QWERTY slide to accompany a full numeric keypad up front; sadly, 3G data is left entirely out of the equation. The C730 is the HSDPA follow-on to the
Excalibur with a 2 megapixel cam and a rather comely (in our humblest of opinions) black shell. Thankfully, both come loaded with Windows Mobile 6 Standard. Look for the C500 this month for about $490, while C730 fans will have to wait until next month and shell out another hundred at $590.

I thought HTC was going to drop the Dopod brand.

The C730 looks an awful lot like the HTC S710 that I just cracked open today. I got it for $550 online unlocked. HTC has announced a 3g capable upgrade called the S730 to be released later this year. I couldn't wait; so far, I love it.

Hey Peter, where'd you get your S710? (and I think you mean that the C500 (Vox) looks like the S710? does yours have GPS?

Yea! Glad the Cavalier will finally see the light of day, but I think being $600-ish in June is a tough road to hoe vs. a certain other phone that starts w/ an "i"... (granted, a lot will depend on just how good the text entry experience is on the iPhone)
The C730 looks like it's quadband for voice, but anyone know whether the HSDPA is on Cingular's 850/1900? (rest of the world uses 2100MHz)
FWIW, here's that head-to-head of the Cavalier vs. the non-US version of the BlackJack: http://tinyurl.com/ycyzf5
