Promotional Zune sports Halo 3 branding
We're a little hesitant to call a Zune that has a tiny little Halo 3 decal on the front a "new Zune," and therefore we're assuming that isn't, by some sort of cosmic corporate joke, the Zune update that we've all been expecting. Nevertheless, this is definitely going to be of some interest to the Halo addicts out there (the same kind of addicts that are looking at the $130 Halo 3 Legendary Edition with anticipation). There's no word on whether this special edition Zune will ever get a commercial release -- as far as we know it was just a one-off for a recent Halo 3 event in New York -- but we won't be waiting around for it. We'll be busy losing at Halo 3.

This HALO histeria is making me sick.
HALO was a good game, but, HALO2 was the biggest waste of my money I can think of.
After watching the in-game videos of Halo 3 at Gamespot, I seriously doubt I'm gonna buy it.
What kills me is how MS is milking the gaming public like a cow's teets.
The Legendary Edition comes with a...*ahem*...helmet that you can't even wear - for $130?
Are they nuts?
What could possibly be so special about a HAlo3 Zune?
Milk @ Jun 8th 2007 1:52AM
OK....If people want to buy the $130+ edition...let them.. What the hell does your opinion mean anyway? If you don't want to have/spend for the mini helmet then good for you...we do not want to hear it. People will buy what they want/when they want whenever they feel like it...and not on the basis of some fruit like you. If you don't agree on this product/ If you have an opinion/ If you even think you feel a sharp pain in your stomach that feels like a crap coming on...NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR IT...Thank you and good day..."I SAID GOOD DAY SIR.".....So for the sake of everyone who wanted to post this and didn't feel like writing all this crap...STFU............and have a nice day!

Big,
I don't know about you, but Halo 2 was NOT a waste of money. Sure, the campaign might have been a bit disappointing, but the online was amazing.
If anything is over-hed, it's the PS3.
Dan @ May 13th 2007 9:18PM
WHAT?! PS3, iPod. Two things that have absolutely nothing to do with this post, but let's still talk about them here.
iPods are bad.
freeway8989 @ May 13th 2007 8:59PM

Irwin @ May 13th 2007 9:17PM
it's a collector's item for a reason..lol..they arnt stupid for not making that helmet wearable..hence collector's or legendary or w/e eddition
halo ftw.
humpty @ May 13th 2007 9:19PM
You might as well take a normal Zune and write "I a Virgin" on it..
Arjun @ May 13th 2007 9:35PM
It has more than the little logo. Check th link for more pictures.

This Zune model is intended for full commercial release and is discussed by a MS/Bungie rep in an interview with GameSpot at the event: http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/halo3/download_ini.html?sid=6170667&id=6170667
The branding design continues over to the back but is not particularly impressive. Of more interest is the fact it apparently comes pre-loaded with Halo content. One presumes this means it comes with Halo soundtrack(s), although I guess those who would be interested in this model at the inevitably inflated price probably already own them.
akijikan @ May 13th 2007 9:52PM
lol research...engadget's strong point?
WIll @ May 13th 2007 9:48PM
I personally liked Halo 2 better then Halo 1 but that is just me. I also think this Zune looks very cool I just wish they would release a 80 or 120 GB version and add some movies and TV shows to the marketplace.
RyanTV @ May 13th 2007 11:00PM
Just when you thought the Zune couldn't get any lamer...
pencap23 @ May 13th 2007 11:09PM
Neat idea, someone will buy it. I do think Halo 3 will be awesome, as Halo 2 was awesome, and the online play was spectacular.
Marian @ May 13th 2007 11:37PM
No logo sticked on it will make the shitty zune be more appealing!
kingofwale @ May 14th 2007 12:27AM
Microsoft continues to milk one thing they did well at.
in no time they will brand that on xbox and sell you for 70 bucks more. and maybe even your Windows will have Halo Brand on.
selling Halo brand out like a cheap whore isn't going to save zune.
Brian @ May 14th 2007 2:03AM
I think it's ugly. At first I thought it was just a little Halo 3 thing that you can see, but the stuff on the back is just weird. I'm no iPod lover and think so things about the Zune are nice (wireless..), but there's so many gimmicky "special editions" it just gets stupid. They need to stick to one look and keep it that way.
LordFarkward @ May 14th 2007 4:25AM
no they don't
Anonymous @ May 14th 2007 5:49AM
They'd have been better off making the back glossy with the Halo 3 logo and that beam of light coming out of that ancient forerunner structure (Look at the promotional materials part of the Bungie site if you don't know what I mean) but I guess this looks a bit nicer than the normal zune.
Having said that, someone earlier had it right when he said that you might aswell take a normal zune and write "I am a virgin" on it, because that is what people are going to think if they see you with a zune instead of an Ipod.
About the same thing they think if you've got Linux.
threefingeredlord @ May 14th 2007 7:52AM
Microsoft will make money from this. I know because I AM the kind of person who will buy a zune just for the halo branding. Well...I was already considering a zune anyway, but now I don't even have a choice, I must have this.
I already have the halo soundtracks, but if this comes pre-loaded with the halo 3 soundtracks that's a bonus!
farid mokraoui @ May 14th 2007 2:39PM
Microsoft is desperate to tie in anything to the zune to make it sell. I realy hope they don't charge extra for it, and throw in allot of extras. That would definitely give it an edge over the ipod.
Me, I'm not a big fan of special branded devices. I remember when the U2 Ipod came out and how lame it seemed. The same thing goes for this zune. How about you focus on making the zune worthwhile rather than trying to tie in franchises with your products.
Damon @ May 16th 2007 12:53PM
Oh, by waste of money you mean that Halo2 took all of your free time away. Or maybe you mean that you never played it online therefore by paying 50 bucks for the campaign mode it was a waste of money.
