Though we're still not convinced
SureType is worth the trouble (especially when beauts like the new Curve are kicking around), rumor has it RIM is hard at work on the 8100
Pearl's successor, the aptly-numbered 8120. Expect features to include a 2 megapixel camera (up from the Pearl's 1.3 megapixel unit), integrated GPS, and the long-overdue WiFi support RIM's
been spouting off about as of late. If this all pans out, we can apparently expect Canada's Rogers -- a GSM carrier with 3G capabilities -- to get it in September of this year with an unnamed US carrier grabbing it a week before that in black, red, "titanium," blue, and gold.

Lol, they better update it and fast.
In about 30 days, the BlackBerry Pearl will have its pretty surface marred quite a bit.

I hope the iPhone sells well because everyone knows Apple owners cry more than anyone else. I really don't want to see Digg and Engadget flooded with blogs from Apple owners making excuses as to why it is not selling and finding a way to blame Bill Gates.

Agreed, fanboys in general are no fun. I like to read ACTUAL comments with some good info, not wannabe's that need to cry to make themselves feel better about their purchases.
Anyway, a Pearl with wi-fi? That would be damn cool, I would gladly dump my Treo if this came to Sprint in the near future (not holding my breath on this one). I guess I'm stuck getting the 6800 whenever the heck that thing comes out.

Similar features + GPS? Looks like a worthy competitor to me...

Don't knock SureType until you've used it for a month or so. I have used the full qwerty keyboards on BlackBerry using a 7520 and I now have the Pearl. Compared to the full qwerty, I am faster with SureType, I can type with one hand much more easily, and the Pearl fits much more nicely in my pocket (pants and shirt) - holsters look kind of dorky.

The new Pearl 2 will be available on the Sprint Network. It will be available end of August beginning of September. Wi-fi, EVDO (with upgrade for Rev A), expandable memory card, Sprint music store enabled, I think a 3.2 megapixel camera. This is all I know so far. Most of the details are from a reliable source. I just cant remember the exact megapixel of the camera.

I bought a pearl 2 weeks ago. Best phone I have ever owned. Brilliant screen. Brilliant form factor. Suretype is great. I type as fast as I think on it. Only drawback, the keyboard is tiny, and big fingers would have a hard time. The lack of wifi is a slight bummer, but edge works for general internet. Push email is fantastic, too. Iphone will wish it works as well as a blackberry. Im betting on that.
