Creative Zen Wav on the way
At first we worried that the Zen Wav would only play WAV files, but as it turns out Creative's latest player (which hasn't been officially announced just yet and may only be for Asian markets) is a 2GB flash-based player with tiny built-in stereo speakers (which we're sure will sound amazing), a 1.5-inch display, integrated digital voice recorder, line-in recording, an FM tuner, and yes, support for playback of MP3, WMA, and WAV files.

This is Creative we're talking about here. Those speakers will probably sound better than you expect.

It might be 'Creative' we're talking about, but these will be smaller than most laptop speakers, so I seriously doubt we're up for mega volume, if they want battery life, or quality, cause there so small.
Not saying its impossible, just unlikely that these speakers are going to be that good, especially since they'll be living in a player that's this small.

*waits for iPod comments*

That thing looks so 1985 that I want to hurt myself. Honestly, I think I used that exact device to record my favorite songs from the radio via the crappy built in microphone.

Well, the horrible design and tinny speakers will surely make this worth $30 more than a comparable iPod nano!
And video playback on a 1.5" screen, to boot? SOLD!

179 Singapore dollars = 117 US dollars.

I still am not sure where people get the idea that Creative = great sound? I've never thought that any Zen I heard sounded any better than any of my other players and plenty of companies make better sound cards and speakers than Creative.
*wonders when Creative is going to replace the Vision:M and add audio features people care about rather than players like these*

Surely it would've made sense to put the speakers at opposite ends of the case so it would have some stereo separation?

Fantastic, more encouragement for teenage brats to make us endure crap music in the supermarket, on the bus, on the train and any other public area. The louder and more antisocial the better, of course.... thanks Creative!

My thoughts exactly. I hate those people.
jazzay @ May 18th 2007 6:40PM
So, first off, the "great sound" comment was sarcasm.
Secondly, 12 feet is the optimum for stereo separation, it doesn't matter if the speakers are half an inch or 2 and a half inches apart, there isn't going to be stereo separation.

Creative really needs to get onboard the FLAC and Ogg Vorbis train. The audio format support is looking a tad anaemic.
