Fujitsu still going large with a pair of 55- and 63-inch plasmas

Fujitsu is still keeping it big, with revisions to its Plasmavision line of 55-inch and 63-inch plasma sets. The P55XHA51WSb and P63XHA51WSb have added a second HDMI input since last year's models, and boosted the contrast up to 3000:1, while keeping the remaining specs the same as before. On the bright side, prices have been lowered to £4,495 ($8,885 US) and £6,495 ($12,839 US), so if you're not turned off by the 720p resolution or the higher-than-normal pricing, grab these up.

I thought plasmas were so 3 years ago or something. Isn't LCD the future? If you are going to spend $9K on a TV, shouldn't you just spend a bit more and get state of the art? I mean, if you have that much money to blow on a TV, a bit more won't matter, will it?

Thanks Kev, I had been opperating under the assumption that Plasmas still had the issues with screen burn in and were not as good as the LCD's that are out there now. I wouldn't want something this big (63 inches, I would have to sit in my front yard for good viewing in my living room) but is a good Plasma of say 40 or so inches still a good buy?

So basically you're saying "if you're not turned off by paying for a lesser product that costs more, go for it"? Why not make this a warning for people NOT to get this?
Not even touching the whole plasma lcd thing, why would anyone purchase this if they could get a tv with higher resolution, better reputation, and for less money?

Or why not get the LG 60PCD1 60" plasma for $4049.00 at Circuitcity?

there are gorgeous 1080p 52" LCDs out from Sony/Samsung that cost $3k or something. hard to see how these 720p plasmas would be better? they might have slightly better contrast but not even sure of that.

Go to your local retailer and look at the Fujitsu and compare it to any LCD. Then come back and talk trash.

3000:1 contrast ratio sucks the new samsungs have 1500:1. I have no clue why anyone would buy this tv.
aaron @ May 19th 2007 6:00PM
Do some research. A higher contrast ratio is ALWAYS better. Therefore, if Samsung's "new" displays only have a 1500:1, their display sucks a LOT worse than this display. You're probably getting their LCD displays mixed up with their Plasma ones, since LCD is well known for it's crappy contrast ratios. 3000:1 on an LCD would be good.
Although, for a Plasma, 10000:1 would be way better and I've even seen some with 20000 or higher.
Jason Ross McMillan @ May 20th 2007 12:51AM
sorry man their new displays have 15,000:1 didn't type enough zeroes.

fujitsu is know - reputation wise - for havin some of THE BEST plasmas out there. the only real competitors to these are the Pioneer Elites.
its sad though, to see fujitsu taking their time updating these units. the new ELITES kick asss and they update them very often.
still . . these fujitsus will have better picture then 95% of the displays out there, regardless of specs.
Perrey Z. @ May 21st 2007 2:13AM
Better picture than 95% of the plasmas out there??? What are you talking about, man. These are a 55-inch HITACHI and a 63-inch SAMSUNG commerical 1,366 X 768p models wrapped on silver skins with over price tags. Fujitsu has not make ANY new advances in picture quality since their AVM-2 and that was 3-years ago. It's time for them throw the tower. And those are the same prices the sets sell for. 2007 is the year of Panasonic and their 1080p Full HD sets.
motech @ May 21st 2007 8:57AM
hitachi makes the absolute worst sets out there.
panasonic - half their sets are shit and the rest are pretty good (the higher end and the pros).
Pioneer & Sharp are by far the best out there. and Samsung does a great job too.
m1k3y @ May 19th 2007 3:41PM
lol wtf is 3000:1 isn't that a little weak for a plasma? i figured all plasmas had a minimal of 10,000! LOL

Once again, have you ever seen a Fujitsu?
What seperates most all plasmas apart is the video processor. Even though the processor is old, it is still ahead of its time.
Fujitsu is the only TV mfg to win consistent awards for their sets. It has the best color, detail, and motion processing.
Contrast ratio is a made up number by the set mfg's.
