Eizo's 24-inch HD2451W LCD monitor loves some HD
Yup, it's another 24-inch, 1920 x 1200 LCD monitor with 1000:1 contrast ratio. Not that that's a bad thing. This time, it's Eizo doing the honors with this, their ¥149,800 (about $1,232) FlexScan HD2451W. That "HD" in the name gives a hint to the panel's 2x HDMI inputs for 1080p sourced content. It also packs more traditional HDCP-enabled DVI and D-Sub15 inputs for your computers as well as S-Video and composite inputs for your other AV equipment. Rounding things out are a 450cd/m2 brightness, 16ms response, DVI and D-sub 15 inputs, a 2x USB hub, and the ability to pivot into portrait mode. The only thing that seems to be missing is LED backlighting. Eizo is also offering a business-minded FlexScan S2431W without all the pesky video inputs for ¥114,800 (about $944) or a 20.1-inch, 1680 x 1050 FlexScan S2031W for ¥59,800 (about $492) if your boss is a bit tight with the budget. All should hit Japan starting June 7. Check the backside ports on the HD2451W after the break.

Isnt 1000:1 contrast ratio not that great.. no matter how its measured. Its probably great for spreadsheets, but, anything else...

Actually 1000:1 Contrast ratio is pretty much standard now (at least for higher end LCDs), but not long ago LCD hat ratios about 1:800 or even 1:500.
You might think of the new 1000000000000000:1 Ratio displays (exagerated, i know), but those are mostly for television and / or concept devices. I don't know of any consumer computer monitor that reaches those levels.

when are we going to get a 50" monitor with a high resolution and high contrast ratio which we could use either for our monitor or TV?

16MS Response Time........... Dont Think Ill Be Gaming On This One.
Sinbios @ May 23rd 2007 10:36AM
Doesn't even have component, and more expensive than the BenQ FP241WZ.

To all of the above naysayers - Eizo is a high-end display manufacturer whose emphasis is on color accuracy. They are meant for professionals in photo and video editing who demand accurate color reproduction above all else - including low response times and ridiculously high (I prefer to call it inflated) contrast ratios. Their competition most certainly is NOT Dell or BenQ.

manfesto is right... owner of a EIZO CE240W and it's for the critical color work I do for my photography... for this purpose, it's a luscious display to look at when matching prints to monitor display... gaming is secondary.

Sinbios: Actually, you can plug component devices into the "D4 Video" port (a Japanese standard) by means of an adapter:

this would be awesome for Ikaruga

Yeah, but does it do 1:1 pixel-mapping for 16:9 content?
