Couldn't agree less. To me, the iPod is all about the hardware. The software, while it has improved, is still well short of impressive. That's why third party software alternatives like Rockbox are even in demand. -- Um, if that were true, Apple wouldn't have a stranglehold on the market. Of course, iTunes is a part of why iPods have succeeded. In that light, Steve's correct. But I was thinking of the software on the iPod itself. The clickwheel is great, but it's hardware. The menus on the iPod are pretty much the same as any other player that has menus at all (select Artist, Song, etc...).
Compared to my Sansa (maybe the iPod's only real competitor?), the iPod is physically better constructed (minus features like expandable memory and replaceable battery), but the menus in the interface are pretty much the same.
