DXG intros budget-priced 7.1-megapixel digicam

After a slight detour with some PMPs, low-end manufacturer DXG is getting back to its regular game of cheap but wholly unremarkable digital cameras, upping things to a full 7.1 megapixels with its new DXG-711 digicam. Apart from that more than adequate (for most) resolution, the camera will give you a 3x optical zoom, a 2.5-inch LCD display, a built-in voice recorder, and 32MB of internal memory -- it's not clear what expansion options there are, although DXG's other cameras have all had SD card slots. As you can see, the company also keeps things about as basic as can be with the camera's design. If that suits you just fine, you'll only have to drop $150 to call this camera your own.

Nice camera... Nicer photo
Eh, for the same price you can get a quality brand that doesn't skimp on quality or speed like these cheapies typically do.
$150 for 7.1 megapixel!? Too good to be true?
Uh... no? The higher the resolution, the worse the image quality is. 7 MP is too much for a small P&S. And what do you need 7 MP for anyway?
@Engadget: Are there no real news? There is nothing interesting about this camera, and it isn't even from an important brand.
DXG is fairly decent. A friend of mine has a 5MP DXG that he loves, and it takes nice photos, too, not at all low quality. Sure, it's not as feature-packed as one of those DSLRs from Kodak or Sony, but it looks nice regardless. As they said, it's budget.
I'm not one for stock photo gawking... but is it just me, or does her bathing suit look photoshopped on?
Naturally, this suggests that there is an *original* picture out there somewhere, in some DXG backroom computer.
i see it too. and it looks more like Paint to me =p
I bought a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 from OfficeDepot a couple of weeks back for $150.
This is the 7.2 MP with Carl Zeiss lens. The ones with the regular Sony lens (i think S-600) can be had cheaper.
Why would anyone buy a DXG for that price.
if you live in Toronto they had the dsc w80 for $150 shoppers drug mart after you use your Optimum Rewards Points. I must say even for a budget grade camera, it has impressed me a lot.
Right now many Staples locations are liquidating Sony Cybershot DSC-W60, W70, and W80 models. I picked up a W70 (7.2 megapixels, Carl Zeiss optics, small form factor, etc) for $159 on Friday.
