Bevy of upcoming iPhone accessories revealed
iPhone owners might be putting their treasured handsets into accessory detectin' mode right out of the gate thanks to a plethora of accessories outed in iLounge's iPod accessory guide, which at well over one hundred pages is pretty much the be-all, end-all bible of iPod add-ons. As we might expect this early in the game, the goodies are strictly standard fare -- cases, FM transmitters, and the like -- though Belkin's Acrylic Case (pictured) looks like a winner thanks to its ability to support the iPhone on it side for more relaxed widescreen video viewing. Another gem is Crystal Film, which'll cover the entire front of the device with a thin, transparent static cling layer; good idea from a protection standpoint, but we can't help but wonder how that's gonna affect the feel of the screen.

Crystal Film, eh? You can buy sheets of that stuff for the price of one cover I bet. The acrylic case is nice, but it makes it a lot bulkier.
From the owner of an m:robe 100 with a touch screen, the protective covers are a little 'stickier' than the screen itself, but does not effect the response at all, or make it harder to use. Not to mention that screen protectors are amazing.
My girlfriend is a geology major and went on a trip... She took my m:robe. She had it in her purse.... well, she found some specimens of rocks and minerals that she HAD to have, and with no where else to put them, stuck them in her purse....
Let's just say that if the screen protector wasn't on my mrobe, it would have been ruined.

I'd think carefully about a relationship with someone who is so careless with your toys.
The acrylic case looks useful, but I really hate bulkification of things.

Oh, she got quite an earful about it. I spent all last weekend detailing my car and as soon as she got in she put one foot on the seat and the other on the dash.. grr...
My new cell phone came with an awesome case... with the exception of the belt clip that, even when removed, has a part that sticks out what feels like a half of an inch...

Oh gosh, it reminds me of those old cinema displays that used to complement the G4 Towers!

Rachel, as someone that has actually seen, touched and used an iPhone (and to also quote a famous scholar named Mike Tyson) trust me when I say, It will "F you till you love it!" I'm no apple fanboy (don't even own an iPod) but no amount of hype can prepare you for what’s about to drop. Period!!
You thought the MTA ipod warning telling commuters to conceal them and ditch the white head phone was something. Wait till you see what happens with this thing. I fear for the lives of wood be iPhone show offs! PS3 Beat downs aint got nothing on this thing!
PS See you on next month's post iPod launch blogs when I get to say "I told you so!"

don't visit that stupid site I've seen being spammed lately. I have a list of reasons why anyone who spams their own site on a forum is a douche. but I digress...
I'd probably get an iPhone. however, I'm anchored into Nextel at the present time (work).

Please don't take the trolls as sincere, they're just bitching because it's made by Apple. Judging the iPhone on its own merits, 200 patents and all, of course this things is going to be a beautiful device.
craig @ Jun 1st 2007 8:59PM
Both Rachel and Frankenstein Black are trolls and you have as much reason to judge the iPhone on its merits as Frankenstein Black does (that is zero). Period!!
The iPhone doesn't exist in the marketplace and it's only shown to Apple sycophants. 200 patents is meaningless even if they did have them.
brendan Sheehan jnr @ Jun 1st 2007 7:13PM
I couldn't agree more with Rachel, the iPhone is a piece of crap. I wouldn't go near an Apple or Cingular store, or near any of their websites when this thing launches. Trust me you wont like it!
Now I'm definitely gonna be first in line, he he.. :P

HydroWV,
your girlfriend shouldn't take off her m:robe while looking at rocks. That's some kind of kinky field trip.
willy @ Jun 1st 2007 10:24PM
ok.. so this comment isnt about the case... but today i got a customer at my store from canada telling me they had the iphone... is this for real!? or are they just bull crapping and dont have a clue of what they are talking about!?

I don't like having separate screen protecting films and a seperate acrylic case. I have a (DLO?) case I bought with my video iPod and it came with a stickon screen protector and a acrylic case that fits both 30 and 60Gb so it has a spacer for the thinner 30GB. I rather have a case like agent18 has that covers teh screen with acrylic, but since the iPhone has a (capacitive?) touch screen I think an acrylic screen protector is too thick for it to work properly. Since this is a touch screen I think a protective film is a good idea. I'm going to carry my iPhone in my pocket all the time like I do now with my razr so I need screen protection. Now how about GPS, Apple?

Looks pretty cool, but I don't think they really knew what to do about the back of it

I recently purchased the featured case, word to consumers...avoid this case!! It has caused the only instance of my iPhone dropping to the ground. The case isn't thick enough to hold the iPhone securely and pops open randomly. Short of gluing it together, with your iPhone in it...this case is useless and dangerous. It's a real shame because the swivel clip is a cool feature, but the clip itself is also weak and doesn't hold steady on my belt. (works to clip to the front of my sketchbook nicely though)

FINALLY I got an iPhone and with it the pictured case. And I'm Rather disappointed in the case's performance. There are in fact two major flaws in this case.
1. You must take it off of the iphone to use the iPhone Dock
2. and second, as posted by "abby" The case's cover falls off and the iPhone may Fall off
But, The swivel clip is great, along with the fact that it comes with a Mount for your dashboard, perfect for on-board google maps

i've been using a crystal case for my treo 650 for quite sometime now. in fact I've gone through about three of them. What can I say? it's the best for protecting from minor dings and scratches. Also I'm using an old screen protector from Palm days for my new iPhone. it's great as well and takes away nothing from the "feel" of using the touchscreen

I think within 6-8 months apple would come out with a software update to fix bugs and/or enhance/improve features based on user feedback. Also, I would not be surprised if they drop the prices (mail in rebate) or something after 6 months or as soon as the sales cool down. Expect a newer version with higher memory after 12 months resulting in price drop of the first two models.
