Acer's Ferrari c500 Pocket PC spotted in the wild
The folks over at The Inquirer sneaked up on an Ferrari-branded Acer c500 and snapped this grainy picture before getting kicked out of the booth by the camera-shy Acer peoples. At least we're almost positive it's the c500, The Inq wasn't able to get any specs or a model number, but this shiny bugger looks to be the exact unit we saw hit the FCC a few weeks ago, which features WinMo 5, a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, a 300MHz Samsung 2442 processor, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and a decent complement of storage and RAM. We're guessing we'll know more about this sucker soon enough, Acer was never one to keep a random and possibly ill-conceived Ferrari-based concept under wraps for long.

What's up with all the WinMo 5 hardware around?? Where is WinMo 6.0 Pro these days? Why is it taking so long to get 6.0 out to the masses???

Just don't let Eddie Griffin use it. He'd crash it in ten seconds.

I don't get how you spotted one on safari?

@Brendan: HA HA HA!
Please stop using that dumb phrase Engadget.

Man. I can't believe it's come to the day when I say: "Pocket PCs or non-cellular capable Windows Mobile devices are useless to me". I know there's plenty of people out there that would still by a Pocket PC device but not me anymore. I refuse to go back to the days when I had to also carry a cell phone while I lugged around a traditional Pocket PC.

apeguero, I still haven't upgraded to a PocketPC Phone because there is still nothing that truely topples the power of my Axim X50v. I carry it with a RAZR v3, both are pretty thin, I would hardly call it lugging

Why is the "ferrari" pda have such crappy specs? Come on, dedicated PDAs have had VGA screens, video processors, and 600+MHz processors since 2004.

apeguero, yep. I'll echo what John said about carrying two devices because I carry almost the same two - Axim X30 plus Razr V3. The reason is the processing power. Smart phones just don't have the horsepower some of us need for our mobile apps. I use my Axim for doing many things while listening to music on it. Even at 624mhz, I still bog this thing down. So it just depends on your usage. But I must admit, I sure do wish one of those smartphones would perform at the level I need to get 'er done. I'd LOVE to carry only one device in my pockets.
