Costs. That's the reason they'd go with a smaller chip. The bigger the size the more it costs to fabricate. Anyway--this bodes well for their next-gen 1Ds Mark III. I wonder what kind of lenses they're working on in conjunction with this new chip because it's gotta be some sweet glass!
