NAViBLUE NBC3500 3.5-inch GPS rings up at $155
Don't be alarmed if you've never heard of NAViBLUE, but the company's NBC3500 navigation system is nevertheless aiming for the budget-conscience set with its remarkably inexpensive 3.5-inch GPS. The device reportedly packs a 300MHz Atlas II processor, 32MB of NAND Flash ROM, 64MB of RAM, USB 2.0 connectivity, an SD flash card slot, rechargeable Li-ion, and a Samsung touchscreen as well. Moreover, you'll find a SiRF Star III receiver, headphone jack, built-in speakers, and a multimedia player and image viewer that handles MP3, WMA, OGG, JPG, BMP, and GIF formats. The unit measures in at 4.5- x 3.1- x 0.9-inches in size and weighs 7.1-ounces, holds a map of the USA on an included SD card, sports turn-by-turn guidance, and best of all, rings up at just under $155. Of course, this thing isn't the sleekest navigator on the market, but for $154.99, we'll give it a pass on aesthetics.

Damn, with those specs and that price I say forget the looks. Where do I pay?

Great price and looks. Now if only it came with a N.American map that included Canada too. Hey, TOMTOM has my vote for low-cost GPS since it came out.

It's about time someone came up with something priced below the $200-$250 mark.

I wonder if I could just use this with my laptop that has the Delorian Street Atlas 2007 on it. I navigate with that in my vehicle, but it is a pain, as I cannot just glance at a screen when it is off to the side and down on the passenger seat. My idea is just plug this into the laptop and put it up on the dashboard. If it does not work that way; for around $150 it would still be worth buying if it actually is a good navigator.

Yes but what software will be be running? There's plenty of inexpensive nav units out there (although this one is definitely defining the new low end), but a lot of their software is absolute crap. It'd be nice if someone would just forgo the crap software and put out a generally hackable platform on which we could easily load up TomTom or iGuidance without having to jump thru hoops.

Got one about 6 months ago. Excellent unit, especially for the price. It finds the sats pretty quick. Very useful.
