Just bought the Hitachi 1TB unit and I love it (Best Buy - $419). I previously had the WD My Book - 1TB (Costco - $384); the software was horrible (Mac) and the fan noise was even worse...I left it off because it could be heard through most of the upper 2 levels of our home. The red light is cool and it's virtually silent.
Is the drive is easily removable from the enclosure, or are all the screws hidden.
Looks like the important screws are accessible - haven't popped the case yet, but it looks like it's feasible.
