MIT's wireless electricity demoed, dubbed WiTricity

We always knew Tesla was right: MIT physics professor Marin Soljacic and his team of researchers behind the latest wireless electricity scheme have reportedly demoed their magnetically coupled resonator technology on a 60-watt lightbulb that wasn't plugged in. Of course, no technology should be without a name, and so they've dubbed it WiTricity. Apparently Soljacic thinks it's possible to commercialize WiTricity within the next few years, which would be totally amazing if it was powered by Steorn's humanity-saving infinite energy device. Everyone is missing the point....Its all about the Bees.....the Bee population is declining and many believe it is because of all the radio waves in the air messing the the bees homing ability...Now we add electric???? Damn bees never had a chance.

No, Colony Collapse problem has nothing to do with electricity and radio waves. Hives are kept in rural areas where there is negligible RF. Just try getting good cell service.
Looks like it is linked to some engineered corn that has pest resistance qualities built into it. Hives withing proximity to these fields where the corn are grown have been decimated.

Firstly, yes, we should all be burned for using all this technology. Especially in the UK if children are within a photon's reach, it's common practice. Or should be. Down with the photons!
Seriously tho, impressive stuff if it's commercialised. I'm sure at school I was taught that basically this isn't possible given em physics but unless it's the scam of the decade, bring it on!

This is not a scam I can tell you that. Tesla powered 200 100watt light bulbs 26 miles away from his actual device except he was not using the same coupling method that MIT is using today. He was using the earth as a conductor. He found the electrical reasonant frequency of the earth and used his monster Tesla Coil to excite it make it happen. Heck with the Tesla coil I built and a properly tuned coil I can draw arc's off of it in my friends house down the street. Tesla ran into the same trouble that MIT will eventually run into today. If you dont need wires how do you charge people for it. westinghouse cut tesla's funding after he said "Where do I put the meter". Just like the farmer who had high tension power wires running through his field. So he took a coil of wire and stuck it under the High Tension wires and got all the electricity he needed. Untill he was caught of course.
and another thing People who lived near Tesla's lab in Colorado Springs NM reported that while tesla was doing his biggest reasonance experiment which in the end produced a lightning bolt exceding 100ft in length that was could be heard for miles, while at the same time causeing feed back and frying the entire power plant producing the electricity for colorado springs. But any way
people reported that the ground around his lab was glowing blue with saint elmos fire and that if they touched a water spot they could draw an arc and if they got off of something that was insulating them from the ground they would get a shock through their shoes. Crazy

I'm sorry to sound so trite, but why does no one read the actual articles before they post this stuff?
There are three things about this that nobody seems to get.
1) the physical parameters of the resonator have been chosen so that the radiative losses of the transmitted power are minimized. (for the experiment with the light bulb about 5 W were being radiated)
2)The energy is transfered through the magnetic field, which is completely harmless to humans, and anything else electric for that matter. (Look into MRI a HUGE magnetic field is passed through humans)
3) It can only be received if the object's natural resonance frequency is exactly matched by the transmitted frequency. All other objects are not interactive with the field.
Also, efficiency can be greatly increase by using designer materials. They used copper and a very simple setup to keep people from beating them to perfecting it. Thats why they won't tell you how they drove the circuit or the diameter of the wire they used to make the 60cm coils. Read the literature and study it a bit...
I wonder how the flow of electrons, will be taken wireless. I have few doubts
1. If electrons are flowing in air over a particular frequency, will it be received by any other GOOD CONDUTORES of electricity?
2. If it is yes, then human bein is also good conductor of Electricity. Wont it affect mankind?

Imagine the implications:NO home without power,no more cables etc.
