Wal-Mart reveals its full Dell lineup
For some reason we kinda doubt that many Engadget readers are in a hurry to load the kids into the station wagon and head on down to Wal-Mart for some cheap computer action, but we'd be remiss in our journalistic duties were we not to give you the final lowdown on that pair of Dell bundles hitting the retail behemoth this weekend. Since we already knew the specs of the 'high-end' $698 package, the only real surprise here is that you're getting almost the same machine for $498 -- the only difference being a 250GB vs. 320GB hard drive -- with the price drop instead coming at the expense of "extras" like a monitor, speakers, and memory card reader. A little later in the month, those lucky enough to have been accepted into Sam's Club will have their choice of an $828 multimedia bundle featuring the same Dimension E521 desktop supplemented by NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE graphics and another gig of RAM, or a 15.4-inch dual-core Inspiron 1501 notebook with a DVD burner, 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive for a few cents under $900. Seems like Wal-Mart should be able to push a pretty decent amount of these out the door -- which is good news for Dell, because Michael and friends need all the help they can get to reclaim their top spot from those crafty competitors over at HP.

"120GB of RAM"
I like it.
:P
Just in time to further attempt to bring in bigger spenders to their stores eh?
"but we'd be remiss in our journalistic duties"
the fact they thought they had any journalistic skills was the funniest part of the article.
only four years away from being in your yard sale!
I am not sure what the author of this article is implying about Dell, but I have had nothing but great experiences with my Dell laptop and desktop. I have owned a Compaq, HP, and a so-called computer made by Apple.
I think it is neat that Walmart finally has some quality computer products. Note that they are no hurry to sell crappy Apple computers.
I wouldn't get too darned excited over this offer. It is simply repackaged PCs that Dell could not sell for $1000. There is nothing in them that is alluring enough to make me want to run to Wal-Mart. Graphics are poor, it sports a slower dual core and and has Windows Vista which you can't fully enjoy because of the poor graphics card. Slap an Nvidia Gforce 8800GTX in it and sell it for $900 and I would rush right out and buy one.
Super. These two craptastic corporations deserve each other.
Without NASCAR-theming, these will fail.
Couple of things. This is not to bring in bigger spenders at Walmart. This is to bring cheap PCs to the masses. Funny how nobody complains that they sell Ipods, Garmin, etc..when they make fun of how Dell is partnering with them. Second thing, to the guy that says "will be at garage sale in 4 years"...For Engadget readers, I think this sums up almost every computer out there. Mac, PC, Linux, or anything else. To the guy that said "these two companies deserve each other"...As much as I hate Walmart, keep in mind that before them, we (the consumers) paid rediculous markups on most retail goods. Sure they killed Mom and Pop. But in the end, it saves the consumer. They are no different than BestBuy or any other large retail chain. To the guy that said Crappy Apple Computers. I use both and like both a lot. But Apple is in bed with Walmart too...Just gander over at the MP3 section.
at my walmart, they were selling for above $700 (some odd number like $758)
