All sorts of Gandolf action is coming out of the woodwork, with Morning Paper following up the
grainy shot it released yesterday with a shiny color version, shown after the break. The rumored specs remain unchanged, and while we're not at all delighted to hear this one will be running Garnet, we're guessing it could be a halfway decent option for low-end users, since it's rocking that lovable $200 pricetag. Even more interesting is the white Windows Mobile version of the form factor that emerged on TreoCentral today, rocking the Vodafone branding. It appears to be running
Windows Mobile Standard (once known as Smartphone) -- which would be a first for Palm, who's stuck with the touchscreen-input Professional (Pocket PC) edition for its Windows Mobile phones -- and positions Palm to better compete with the likes of the Motorola Q and Samsung's BlackJack. Plus the photo is blurry, so you know it has to be good.

i dont know why these kind of "secret," "i-only-got-30-seconds-with-it" photos are always blurry. i mean, how hard is it to get a decent shot (if you actually have the item it is; if it's photoshopped then of course there's reason for it to be blurry!)?
even most camera phones have decent cameras these days, or at least a high enough resolution to get far better photos than this.
Phil @ Jun 9th 2007 4:09PM
Yeah, it's weird. I mean, come on, the crappy camera on my RAZR is 100x better than that.
My only guess would be that the manufacturers are putting these pics out, and they're made to be blurry to spark some hype / discussion without giving away the farm.
Ravi @ Jun 9th 2007 4:26PM
It looks like something Creative would design (for example, their fisherprice styled vision players)
ScOObyDoo @ Jun 9th 2007 4:31PM
Pfff... It is what the Dash was last year.
Chrisboff @ Jun 9th 2007 4:39PM
Ugly as sin IMHO

Excuse me while I kill myself. BRB, guys.
randy @ Jun 9th 2007 4:49PM
Does it run Lotus 1-2-3?
pedro @ Jun 9th 2007 4:51PM
This looks to be a pretty good device, and definitely priced right at $200. I wonder if they are going to forgo a touch screen for cost sake! I really wish that Palm would update the OS, however.
Jason Brown @ Jun 9th 2007 5:11PM
the second pic has a numbered pad on the screen. ergo.....
illone @ Jun 9th 2007 5:23PM
I wonder if palm can catch the leaker by checking everyone in that department hand print and matching it up with the picture
Aaron Walker @ Jun 9th 2007 5:31PM
At least this looks a whole lot better and be more useful than the ridiculous Folio Palm released.
This may be something people actually would WANT and USE.
If it comes in at the reported price point would make a more economical switch for folks wanting a PDA Smartphone without having to break the bank. Plus they get the option of Palm OS or Windows Mobile.
(And please, iPhone folks, I am NOT knocking the iPhone, just saying everyone isn't as excited or looking to get one as youy are. As hard as it may be to imagine, there are maybe at least a few folks who have no plans of getting one.)
andres @ Jun 9th 2007 6:02PM
yeah not everyone is excited about the iPhone but is anyone really excited about this?
Ellianth @ Jun 9th 2007 5:34PM
It almost looks like the silver part can slide in. In color it seems less ugly [I'd like to point out that I'm not calling the Sin pretty]. Assuming that the price would be around $200, $200 is a lot to spend on something I wouldn't want other people to see me using :P.

This is all Palm could do to respond to iPhone. Awful.

Even if it's real it looks fake and that can't be good if I'm not alone in this view.
How could you slap a discontinued Lifedrive navigation section in the middle? It just keeps reminding me of the Lifedrive and the fact it was discontinued.
Paul @ Jun 9th 2007 6:21PM
most of the phone images that are blurry are pictures taken with a camera-phone, which as we know all suck.
even if the camera itself is reasonable, even a crappy image looks fine and dandy when looking at it on the cameras screen..

This thing is sooo ugly.
Deezee @ Jun 9th 2007 10:48PM
I really like this thing, I dont know what everybody's complaining about. I would get one.
Jobs = God @ Jun 10th 2007 12:05AM
Ugly, no doubt about that. The iPhone will make that trash -- and every other Palm phone -- eat dust. Palm 's execs should fire the guys who designed this sh*t.

This looks very cool. Image is fuzzy, though.

Let me warn you about giving in to the temptation of blurry mysterious photos. I went on a semi-blind date with this girl who's photo I've seen... blurry, mysterious, kinda hot at a certain angle under certain lighting. In reality, I was left wishing she were blurry in real life as well. Boys and girls, learn from my mistake.

Windows Mobile 6 Standard is the version without a touchscreen.
Windows Mobile 6 Pro is the version with a touchscrren.
Benson Leung @ Jun 10th 2007 11:32AM
Uhm... Ugly.
Nice try, Palm.
dude @ Jun 10th 2007 3:29PM
It still looks hideous... Who knows it may end up amazing. Ah well.
kai @ Jun 11th 2007 4:50PM
seems like every smartphone is getting compared to the iphone (especially by tech blog commenters). the fact is that this phone, imo, is light years better than the iphone, and realistically cant even be compared.
why?
A USEABLE KEYBOARD! the iphone is fine and dandy when you're looking at it. "oh, ah, pretty." of course this is speculation, but when's the last time you used a touchscreen keyboard that was worth its salt?
Fox @ Jun 12th 2007 7:48AM
The title of this post could just as easily have been "Chinese Knockoff of a Palm device spotted in the wild."
Nick @ Jun 14th 2007 9:15PM
is this touchscreen?
