HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on June 12th, 2007
Are the tides turning? First HD DVD's version of Planet Earth outsells Blu-ray, then HD DVD players sales are way up, and now Universal releases a nice slew of catalog titles to help HD DVD make up some ground in the race to have the most titles available. But wait, Blu-ray isn't going down without a fight, and although they don't have as many titles this week, they do have a big title: Ghost Rider -- never mind it's painfully low IMDB score of 5.5, it is a day-and-date release. But a bad Nic Cage movie isn't going to be enough, as Universal delivers not only the most titles, but also the biggest, with Breach (IMDB 7.7). In case you forgot, we went back and recounted the totals last week, so sans any changes in the past week, this total should include every title available up until June 12th, 2007.HD DVD 223 vs Blu-ray 254.

ZZZZzzzzzzzz
def a bunch of zzz's for the bluray side but ive been kinda looking forward to the breach and bruce almighty.
but on the bluray side the only thing worth a damn is ghost rider and i wasnt too hyped for it when it was in theaters.
It's all about the Monty Python. Drool.
One day someone is going to release a movie I actually want to buy and I'll invariably be disappointed when I realize it's officially the first movie I've even thought about buying.
wow..i think this site should be renamed engadgethddvdwhoring.com
Seriously,..."Blu-ray isn't going down without a fight"...I think you have it the other way round mate...And are you people really going to rely completely on ONE HD-DVD title outselling Blurays equivalent?
My gosh, your articles ooz with hd-dvd fanboyism.
Go to ps3fanboy.com if you want some Blu-Ray fanboyism.
Ben isn't biased, he just tells the truth when it needs to be told. He does the same when Blu-Ray stomps on HD DVD, which may be the case next week when Blu-Ray gets pwnd hard (with 17 HD DVD releases and 2 Blu-Ray releases next week, this will show). It's an ever spinning circle, and everyone/thing gets their/its turn.
You retard, Ben is a COMPLETE admitted BD monkey. The day Ben writes a "fanboi" HD DVD post, it will be the day they get rid of security at airports.
I want my Band of Brothers and Lord of the Rings in HD. >;> Hurry up HBO and New Line Cinema! grrrr....
I saw Breach in the movie theatres. I liked it alot. Its definitely a good movie for anybody who likes suspensful covert ops-type movies. Good story and good acting.
I'll be picking that up sometime this week, and maybe Harsh Times.
New Line said they'd start early this year, so I suppose they may start their HD DVD line at the end of this or the beginning of next. They're very skeptical of the format war, but they did side with HD DVD, and they need to get to work on their stuff. I'm sure Band of Brothers will hit sometime on Blu-Ray and HD DVD.
Why do you say that Ghost Rider is a "day and date release"? This is the second time I've seen this reference to a movie that was released in theaters months before the video release. I thought day and date release meant that the DVD was released at the same time the movie was released at theaters.
In this case day and date means that it is released on the same day as the DVD.
In many cases (music and lyrics for example) new releases on HD DVD and BD are behind the DVD release.
"First HD DVD's version of Planet Earth outsells Blu-ray" I could be mistaken, but I didn't gleam that little bit of info from either the EngadgetHD article or the highdefdigest.com article from whence the summary came. Does anyone else see where that line is coming from?
The Amazon sales rank, which is usually a good indicator of the overall market.
I wouldn't expect BD sales of Planet Earth to match HD DVD. Most "BD player owners" are probably PS3 owners, a very different target audience than Planet Earth's. (I know I'm generalizing...deal with it.)
Bruce Almighty is a proselytizing piece of garbage, starring two awful actors, Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston.
One thing I will say is that I find it absolutely hilarious that people say "HD DVD disks cost more, BD is better because it's cheaper," but then you look at Ghost Rider and it's $26.95 at Amazon!
For that price, I'd rather pay the extra $1 from Universal and get the SD and HD versions so that I can bring it anywhere. At least you get more for your money.
I'll admit Bruce almighty was a letdown.
I really liked Liar liar, and knowing it was him and the same director again I figured it would only be better....boy was I wrong.
And now Even almighty, Ugh. The trailers for that make it look like it might as well have gone straight to Video.
