While
Philips' latest universal remote lacks the genius design seen in the
prototype book iteration, it's tough to deny the utility here. This universal remote may not sport the most luxurious button layout, but it does manage to control up to six devices and play nice with your
iPod; moreover, the SJM3151's built-in LCD screen touts the ability to
mimic your player's screen, so you can sneak a peek at what's on deck without squinting to see the faraway dock. Interestingly, this remote not only packs the infrared abilities we've come to expect, but it also speaks
ZigBee in order to transmit signals "up to 300 feet." Of course, this multifaceted device won't run you cheap, as interested buyers will be asked to cough up $180 to procure one when it lands this fall.

Its harder for me to justify buying this model than the $100 HARMONY for the 360.

I have the 360 Harmony remote, it's pretty sweet, I recommend it, but I think it was $120 when I got back in October...

What's a univeral remote?
Tidus528 @ Jun 13th 2007 10:59PM
... a remote that has the ability to control multiple devices of your choice, like if you have five TVs instead of five different remotes to keep track of you have one remote to control them all, they also control Stereos, Some Computers, Some Climate Control Systems, and many other devices that use IR remotes. But you should probably already know that...

You, Tidus, are a fucking retard.

it's fixed now... it was fun while it lasted though :)

Keyspan has the same thing. Why do these things have to be so ugly? Why can't we finally have one that does the same thing but with iTunes and is not dependent on 11b or BT? *shakes head*

Needs a flip-up screen. Having a screen's only going to be useful if you can see it while pointing at said faraway iPod.
Ethan Duffy @ Jun 14th 2007 8:24AM
Oh, I see 'Zigbee' negates that need.
