Dell oomphs the color with 24-inch 2407WFP-HC LCD
Dell just upped the specs of their 24-inch 2407WFP LCD panel to now cover some 92% of the NTSC color space. The new 2407WFP-HC, like our 3007WFP-HC fave before it, features Dell's TrueColor technology meant to enhance your video and graphic entertainment. Otherwise, the specs and features appear to remain unchanged you know, if you live in Japan where this goes on sale tomorrow for ¥108,000 or around $875 when they make it to the US. Better yet, hey Dell, can we just skip this WCCFL backlit model in the US and go straight to an LED backlit version instead? We hear Samsung and LG.Philips have some decent panels available with far superior color rendering and longevity. Thanks.

Well, the Samsung panels are great, look fantastic etc.
But, they pour out a LOT of heat. We have one in our 32" TV and we have to have the windows open when we watch it! You wonder whether those extra colors are worth the sweating, and I would certainly think twice about wanting to work in front of one all day...

I just bought the regular 2407, it arrives Wednesday. Damn!
Oh well, I'll wait for an LED version, yeah, that's the ticket...

Don't fret. I just got the "old" Dell 24" and it's the best monitor I've ever used, bar none. You'll love it.

Lol, same thing man, just ordered the 24" yesterday. Figures

From the specs its looks like it will be using the new AU Optronics M240UW01 V4 A-MVA panel.

Gotta say that 24 incher has had legendary reviews. Hope it keeps the goodness.
Lol, monitor longevity! These old school LCDs last at least 5 years, after which I'm pretty sure most people will want to go with something larger/slimmer/cooler if they haven't already junked the unit. In 2001, we were excited to see 15 inch LCDs drop below $400- would "longevity" have been a worthwhile investment?
oxfdblue @ Jun 18th 2007 10:39AM
Now, will this get Dell to lower the price of the original 2407 monitor?
John Ryan @ Jun 19th 2007 3:52PM
ITS BUILT BY SHARP... DELL USES ALL SHARP PARTS... GREAT DISPLAY BECAUSE IT IS BUILT BY THE BEST BUT THE SUPPORT BLOWS
cory3218 @ Jun 18th 2007 1:27PM
is'nt it time for a price drop on the 3007, or maybe come out with a 3008?
John @ Jun 18th 2007 3:13PM
The 3007 is just over $1200 right now, that's quite a drop from where it was and it the HC version of the 3007 just came out recently
cory3218 @ Jun 18th 2007 3:43PM
well that price drop is part of a 10 day sale. They should make it the permanent price. I just think that the prices on this monitor don't seem to be falling as fast as other lcd displays. you could almost buy 2 24" monitors from dell for the same price.

The 2407WFP-HC English User Manual has been available on the Dell US site for some time, but only through Search:

I have the current version of this monitor, and it is absolutely fantastic.
FXi @ Jun 18th 2007 10:38PM
Please note that they are perfectly able to make HC monitors with 400cd brightness, but not at 30" apparently.
LED is right around the corner and is likely to make wide gamut both brighter and more durable over the years.

What kind of panels does Eizo use in their monitors? Didn't they just release a new accurate-color 1920x1200?
SinCabeza @ Jun 19th 2007 1:12AM
I have 2405 last 14 monthes and I LOVE this panel. Next buy will be a 3007 or 3008 only.
ramian @ Jun 19th 2007 9:57AM
Just got the previous version (2007WFP) 2 weeks back and it is indeed brilliant. Don't think most people will be able to notice or differentiate the improved colour gamut. But, what's good is that the HC version is selling at the same price as the non-HC version even with the 5yr warranty.
Kudos to Dell for making the most affordable and one of the best 24" LCD monitors (in Singapore at least)
Good stuff!

I have an apple G4 powerbook and I would like to get the Dell 2407WFP-HC 24-inch. Am I going to need some kind of adaptor or will it even work with my computer?
Reid Conti @ Jun 26th 2007 4:54PM
I have a 2407WFP hooked up to my Mac Pro and absolutely love it. The thing is beautiful, adjustable, the card reader is extremely useful, and the multiple inputs mean I can use it as an HDTV in my bedroom as well as a computer monitor.
Dell just needs to fire the idiots who made the UI. The menu system is terrible, and the stupid thing forgets its settings constantly (each time I toggle PIP, it 'forgets' which input I last used for it, so I have to drill thru the menus to re-select my source). You can't press any new menu buttons until the old info bar disappears after a 3-second delay, and hitting "source" when you have just toggled PIP (which, in a sane world, would change the source on the PIP display), does nothing.
As a result of this, it takes 10 seconds of button pressing and waiting to toggle PIP each time I use it. What a pain.
If they fix this, and offer a 30" with component video inputs, I'm upgrading.

Hi
I just bought a Dell 2407WFP-HC LCD and I am hooking it up with my mac mini. I absolutely love it.
But I can't get the built memory reader as well as the USB ports.
Neither Dell nor Apple can help me.
Please anyone can help. I am getting desperate here. Since the main reason I got this LCD is because it had extra USB ports and the build it memory reader.
Dell says I need to contact Apple since they have the drivers for me, and Apple says it is a Dell monitor so Dell should have the apple version of the drivers
Thank you so much
Any help will he highly appreciated
