Nah,
19-inch digital photo frames aren't a newfangled creation, but RedPost Inc. is hoping to add a dash of whateva-you-please to the process by offering up the RedPost/Kit. The self-proclaimed do-it-yourself
digiframe kit allows you to order up the device in six colors (including an unfinished iteration for the painters in the crowd), and it even runs a
Linux operating system that should please the tinkerers as well. Of course, you'll also get a 19-inch LCD, 200MHz fanless x86 CPU, 128MB of onboard memory, 802.11b/g WiFi connectivity, and VESA mount compatibility. Still, for $549, you could probably just break away from the quasi-fabricated world altogether and assemble your own for a good bit cheaper.

These are really cool. I was reading about them in the local paper (im from the area) and had a chance to see one at Goshen Colle

These are very industrial looking and not flat enough for me to consider putting one on my wall. Give me a nice art style frame and something 1" max and I'll be pleased. Also throw in a touchscreen option. Thanks. ;o)

they are using an eBox 2300, which I found at http://www.wdlsystems.com/modperl/view_services.cgi?request=list_aisle&aisle_id=838&asibs=eldest_first for under $200 with wifi or $106 without and bring your own USB wifi. it also support booting off CompactFlash which would be "internal" and CF is way faster than this things USB 1.1. Coolest thing about this is that it mounts to an LCD via the standard VESA mounts, for under $350 you can bolt this to the back of an LCD and just sit it on a table.
for $100 I'm tempted to bolt it to my desktop LCD and use it for %90 of what i do on a PC, check email. I can plug it into the VGA input and my desktop in the DVI and switch at will, with Synergy handling the keyboard/mouse.

Yeah iEi have a huge range of those solid state industrial x86 PCs - and they also sell LCD panels and controllers so essentially you could do it all yourself for less and it would be smaller (thinner). http://www.iei-ndsp.com they have sooooo much cool stuff to tinker with.

Sorry, I posted the digital signage site for IEI, this is the full one:

These are nice but a little too high priced for my blood. The digital photo frame makers are putting too high a markup. As an alternative, make one yourself from an older laptop. I made one after seeing some of the ones on this page
I wrote about the making of my digital photo frame in this post

Um, It seems like a little bit of a waste of money, but that's just me... What I want to see is little wireless light bulbs made out of green, red, and blue LED's. Then you could turn your whole house one color, or make it pulse, or whatever. Add a single pixel camera on the roof, and you could have commands like "Set to external ambient".
I guess I'm all for new stuff, and as far as LCD's go, well, I hope to maybe get a laptop soon and I'd like LCD prices as low as possible. I have to admit.. I've never owned a full sized flat screen in my life. I may just find it weird that people are putting them on their walls already.

X86 CPU? I'm surprised no one has mentioned running Linux on it yet.
