Isnt the Qualcomm CPU banned now?
derek @ Jun 18th 2007 2:41AM
Yeah, it is... http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/32397/118/
Strange...
carlo @ Jun 18th 2007 3:05AM
It's a ban on future import after the date of the Commision's order, which I believe was June 7th.
And what's this about: "Finally, the fricking Mogul is announced. We're pretty tired of talking about this phone..." This is only the third time I've heard about it!
Che @ Jun 18th 2007 2:39AM
So, do you guys think it's worth selling my 6700 for?
JasonL @ Jun 18th 2007 3:03AM
yes,
because of the size factor...plus EVDO rev a coming
plus better camera (still not great), legit GPS, WM6 (not critical), better screen and better keyboard.
I ordered one 3 hours ago...we'll see how it goes but I'm still weary since they fucked up my order and charged me for 2 or more of them.
carlo @ Jun 18th 2007 3:13AM
Slower processor (but Qualcom 386mhz, no longer Intel 416mhz), heavier (but slimmer and much better looking), scroll wheel added, speakerphone added, upgraded bluetooth, better camera and battery and the EVDO upgrade later...
Gaines @ Jun 28th 2007 7:30PM
There's a bunch of reviews and resources that might help you decide about buying the Mogul or help out if you've already bought one at http://www.SprintMogul.net
brandon @ Jun 18th 2007 2:50AM
Why do ya'll always say "Finally" about stuff that you have either never or rarely mentioned before?
Daran @ Jun 18th 2007 2:52AM
Even though Qualcomm deserves all the bad things that can happen to it, I CANNOT WAIT TO GET THIS PHONE! SPRINT, LOOK WHAT YOU DO TO ME!!!
Jeff Lewis @ Jun 18th 2007 1:46PM
Indeed - and I notice that they're not 'tired' of endlessly talking about the iPhone. :)
carlo @ Jun 18th 2007 3:20AM
Don't think so. HTC Titan (Tytn for GSM)
Arthur @ Jun 18th 2007 3:36AM
At $399 WITH a 2-year contract, nice as it is, I think this device makes the (4GB) iPhone seem pretty good value.
(Speaking as an owner of an HTC P3300, so I'm not prejudiced against HTC/Win Mobile)
surur @ Jun 18th 2007 4:01AM
Thats definitely true, not having 3G, a hardware keyboard and being able to add your own apps is definitely worth $200 more.
Is there anywhere else I can pay more for getting less. I so love to do that.
Brian @ Jun 18th 2007 6:31AM
Ummm...
1) iPhone has 56k* speed internet (*at best)
2) iPhone does not have a keyboard
3) iPhone is priced at $600 AFTER two year contract
4) iPhone does NOT have much third party software, and knowing Apple, the only software you'll want is the official apple software.
5) The Mogul looks better
6) The only feature the iPhone has and the Mogul doesn't is the new touch interface.
The iPhone is a lame duck. iPhone2 will probably be the next supergadget (that is... the iPhone with a 3G radio and a fold out keyboard)
t-bone @ Jun 18th 2007 10:34AM
You're wrong, Brian. EDGE can do well over 220kbps.
No keyboard? Are you kidding?
The iPhone looks better.
The 4GB iPhone has 16X the storage capacity.
Windows Mobile really isn't that great. I use it all the time in between mulitple resets.
I'd take the iPhone over this any day.
turkish @ Jun 18th 2007 12:33PM
I've been using Windows Mobile on my MDA for a year and a half and it is a POS. Constant freezes, hangs all the time, ringer just randomly stops working, battery software is terrible, calls get ignored if i am using data connection at al (i.e. checking email), and the WM5 WiFi software is utterly useless (have to connect manual, takes forever, works about 10% of the time), and the Media is beyond worthless for anyone used to the super streamlined iPod interface.
I'd gladly sacrifice faster cell data for an phone OS that really works (of course, i too, wish the iPhone had 3G). If the iPhone works as well as advertised, then it's easily worth several hundred more than any Windows Mobile phone, based on my experience. Auto-connecting to available Wi-FI is worth it almost all by itself.
Also, in regards to the above post, iPhone is only $100 more for the 4GB version which is 3.75GB more storage than this phone comes with, not $200. And to say the Mogul looks better? That's just crazy talk.
Jesse S @ Jun 18th 2007 3:42AM
The Samsung i760 is STILL the highlight pdaphone of this summer...Nothing has beat it yet.
Kirk @ Jun 18th 2007 8:33AM
Except for the BlackBerry Curve and the HTC Mogul.
Mitchell Oke @ Jun 18th 2007 3:45AM
You guys forgot to mention Windows Mobile 6 (and your using a WM5 screenshot).
kirby @ Jun 18th 2007 3:53AM
We're pretty "tired" of talking about this phone.
I'm sorry, but there are less then a handful of mentions of the 6800 on engadget itself, Let's see how many of them on the iphone..
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Ronnie @ Jun 18th 2007 4:00AM
Does anyone have confirmation that this phone's GPS is compatible with Google Maps?
JasonL @ Jun 18th 2007 4:06AM
we have been hearing many reports that it is.
I can tell you wednesday.
Johan S @ Jun 18th 2007 4:12AM
qvga resolution sucks. QVGA is useless for usably browsing 99% of websites.
Why do phone companiesinsist on making phones without a decent resolution to browse at? Displays with enough ppi already exist .. why not take advantage of it?
Jesse S @ Jun 18th 2007 4:24AM
If phone companies released the best phone they could right now, what would make you buy another, better one next year, so they can expand your contract.
The same can be said of any market...The most powerful videocard's technology that is available to consumers right now, could have been available years ago, but then no one would upgrade.
harpreet @ Jun 18th 2007 6:12AM
i guess its worth paying 100 bucks more for iphone
because its got no moving parts and also 4gb of memory...and its also cool
ConvergedMD @ Jun 18th 2007 7:50AM
I actually consider a functional tactile keyboard a bit more than a "moving part." For those who think the iphone is some miracle, most Pocket PC phones have had the same capabilities for years. It is just the user interface that needs improving and hopefully this aspect will be addressed soon. I'd never consider purchasing a primary phone without a slide out keyboard.
If you want to pay $100 more for a proprietary locked down piece of hardware so you can buy more products and services from apple, go for it!
I've been waiting for this phone for a while and I'd rather invest that $100 for 4 GB of Flash memory. Especially if you are a business user, the feature set of the iPhone is no match for that of Windows Mobile 6 and all the third party applications that are available.
harpreet @ Jun 18th 2007 8:04AM
your kinda right convergedMD....but still i'd go for none of those phones(iphone or sprint mogul)...rather buy a nokia which can just make phone calls and check mails via gprs
t325 @ Jun 18th 2007 8:12AM
So this is basically what us GSM users have had for a year with the TyTN. Gotta love CDMA.......
John @ Jun 18th 2007 8:44AM
Anyone know when this will be coming to Verizon?
Brian @ Jun 19th 2007 2:03PM
Christ, if this thing is anything like the Cingular 8525, stay the hell away. I have been battling with my cursed 8525 for about two months, and I HATE it. It is truly the worst phone I have ever had. I'm not sure if it's crappy hardware or crappy software, but I will avoid Windows Mobile phones from now on.
torane28 @ Jun 21st 2007 7:47AM
Yep. It's confirmed. It's on the Sprint website right now!!! www.sprintpcs.com
