We thought the Sprint Mogul
was a little bit of alright, but do the 'nets agree? By and large, yeah, it seems the bottom line is that this is the must-have upgrade for
PPC-6700 owners. Mobile Tech Review points out that an MMS client is notably missing and picture quality on the 2 megapixel camera could be better, but hey, it's still an improvement over the Apache's 1.3 megapixel unit. Boy Genius Report found that the ridges on the phone's posterior were a little funky, too; just like the Mogul's crazy bright yellow UI, it's probably an acquired taste.

If it were for AT&T I'd buy it..
There's a bunch of reviews and resources that might help you decide about buying the Mogul or help out if you've already bought one at http://www.SprintMogul.net
When will this be coming to Verizon?
Can someone explain to me how this is better than the i760?

Rev. A is barely available anywhere, and I don't think it's even enabled yet. AFAIK, the phone has more ROM, which I have been led to believe is storage for programs, and both phones have the same amount of RAM, which is what really matters. Plus, the i760 has a better slider mechanism.
Sure. You see, I can buy the PPC-6800 today. I can't buy the i760 today. Clear enough?
I'm not moving off of Verizon, and neither are on Verizon yet. Clear enough?
I'm not moving off of SERO, is that clear enough?
Sprint roams for free on Verizon's network, so technically the 6800 IS on Verizon.
I get free "unlimited" data and a crap load of discounts on my Verizon plan, it's actually better than SERO.
Rev A is available in NYC, and it SMOKES. It blows my mind I can have such a fast connection through a cell phone.
Great to read these reviews since mine arrives Wednesday :).
I own the 6700, and it was far from perfect. The keyboard is not always that responsive to text input, the red keyes do are not back lit. The speaker phone sucks, the phone does not ring very loud.
I have a lot of the same complaints about my 6700, and would add battery life (especially with weak signal) and flaky d-pad to it. If not for the fact that I just bought a car, I'd be seriously looking to grab one of these the minute it hits the shelf.
pretty cool
If anyone reads this and actually has one, can you please install google maps and give a definitive answer whether or not the phone has full GPS that is compatible with google maps or windows live maps. Thank you very much.
Thanks to the leaked “iPhone Sales Training Workbook” for AT&T Wireless employees leaked last week as well as Apple CEO Steve Jobs WWDC keynote, you can take the following to the bank:
1. The iPhone will have support for IMAP, POP3, and Yahoo Push mail. It will also automatically recognize and detect phone numbers in email messages, and gives the option for a one-click access to dialing them. The iPhone does not support Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), so you will not be able to attach pictures or videos to text messages. It will not let you “chat” with friends directly via instant messaging (IM).
2. Videos will pause automatically when a call comes in, and then resumes when the call ends.
3. The iPhone does not have Global Positioning System (GPS).
4. There is no such thing as an iPhone SDK. Third-party applications will be allowed only as web-based applications loaded the Internet via the iPhone’s Safari web browser.
5. You must either setup or have an existing iTunes account in order to use the iPhone, even if you do not intend to make purchases. This is an additional requirement on top of the 2-year service agreement with AT&T.
6. Synchronization is automatic when the iPhone is plugged into a Mac or PC for email, contacts, calendar, and photos.
So, Ross... Are you just ignorant or does this have anything to do with Ronnie's question? We all know iPhone doesn't have GPS, thanks anyways.
I want to know the same answer! But, I will know tomorrow since I ordered it. My Mogul is headed in.
It has limited GPS right now which Sprint Navigation (telenav can utilize) but an update has been promised this fall to allow for full GPS with whatever windows mobile program you want...
What's your source for that info?
Sprint Executive Services.
Sorry I'm late but yes it will work with Sprint's Navigation program... at least that's what they told me.
The PPC6700 supports telenav but requires the purchase of a bluetoothe enable GPS reciever. Maybe with the rumored update this will change but today ti is required. Check www.telenav.com
I still think I'm going to go with the i760...The i730 had MUCH better build quality than the 6700, and that's very important to me.
Oh piss off. The i760 is not even an Apple in BoyGenius's eye at this point - its a long way away, and you're welcome to your $80 plans, half of which go to advertising for trumpeting coverage that isn't there.
Good for you, altho it's funny how you blasted the i760 when it was posted here back in January...

"Jesse S @ Jan 6th 2007 11:12PM
Horizontal. Thanks, Sammy. Horizontal sucks. This phone looks horrible. I will be sticking with my i730."
"I'm not moving off of Verizon, and neither are on Verizon yet. Clear enough?"
Then what's your point? If the 6800 isn't on Verizon, and your beloved i760 (which you previously blasted) eventually will be, then just wait and get the i760. What do you want from here? Confirmation that you made a good choice in flipping your decision???
I'm still upset at it being a horizontal slider, but I need a new phone. My i730 has served me well, but it's time to retire it.
I HAVE to have this. I love my Sprint Q, but have been tempted by something even more robust (with a full/touch screen). I have even been tempted by the iPhone. I settled for the Q this winter when the rumors of an 6800 spring release were greatly exaggerated... =\
I'm in the same boat! I have the Sprint Q with a crap load of accessories. I got it a couple of days after Sprint released it. I like it, but I find the software choices limited because of the Smartphone OS and the screen orientation. So I bit the bullet and spent 700 bucks on a phone I didn't really need. I can't help myself. Anyway, I should get it tomorrow.
unfortunately, i don't have the ability to do that... =\ so i'm having to resort to drastic measures... w3dot buymeamogul dotcom
I actually send it back within my 30 day trial period. I was just too used to the keyboard being accessible 100% of the time, and I realized I hated pulling the stylus of my previous PocketPC devices. I just hope more people keep writing software for smartphone, I'll be happy. I think my next one will be another qwerty smartphone, just not sure which one.
Did you guys see that someone is trying to get people to buy them a Mogul, like the "buymeaniphone" guy last week?? Jeez!
You keep complaining about the bright yellow interface. Cant it be customized?
Yes.
And Kreziwill, cant you spam up some other place?
The only thing that I don't like about this phone VS my PPC-6700 is that now I have to pay to use the phone as a modem for my laptop. I just hope the full HTML on the Mongul is good enough so I don't have to pay for it.
That is the case with any phone on almost any carrier...the only thing is that with Sprint you actually get unlimited service not limited 'unlimited'.
nope its been this way for quite a long time from Sprint...it just has not been enforced...
the rules are still pretty lax and as long as you are not using it ALL the time you might get away with tethering with just a regular power vision plan...
With my 6700 I didn't have to pay for modem, 6800 I do, and who knows maybe by the time of the next phone they will have limited unlimited. Its the beginning of them tightening the Nuse around the Internets neck trying to get money. Who knows.
I ordered the 6800 the day it released anyone get it yet? I still don't even have a tracking number but it says it got shipped.
have one on order. should be fun to play with it. looking forward to testing gps.
Epi did they give you a tracking number? I ordered my phone 4 days ago and they still have yet to give me a shipping number. I called them this morning and they said they are having shipping problems and that they will elevate my request. Are you haveing a similar experience? Or anyone for that matter?
you can go to the sprint site and put your order number in and that will show you a tracking number. thats what i did.
i called and got same response, but when i went to web site i saw the tracking number.
I ordered my phone over a week ago and have been calling everyday. They keep telling me the same thing..."Your order is waiting for a tracking number!" I'm starting to get upset.
Hey everyone,I want to get a new sprint phone, overall what do you guys think of the 6800. I think it looks nice, but I heard the keys sometimes stick.
That concerns me a little.
none of the reviews say that and I do not think anyone else has had the phone long enough to seriously know...
I got my Mogul yesterday. I upgraded from the Treo 650, so it took me a little while to get familiar with the completely new interface. I haven't had a problem with keys sticking. Overall, I'm really impressed. It doesn't seem to come preloaded with any GPS software, I'll have to play with that later and see how that works. When I activated the phone, the guy told me that if I use GPS, there is a $2.99 per day charge for that service. I love the phone so far though. The internet is fast. I also configured the wi-fi to my router and seem to think that it is as fast or faster without my cable modem connection.
I think that $2.99 charge is only if you use Sprints navigation program...

That is true, but if you have any of the vision packs you can add a navigation pack to your plan. It's unlimited usage for $9.99/mo. If you don't currently have a vision pack, you can add a navigation plan for $20/mo that includes basic vision services, plus unlimited navigation. If you don't plan on using the nav that much, then $2.99/day is not bad, but otherwise I would add one of those to options to my plan.
I work at a Sprint store. So far I'm impressed by the durability of the Mogul. People come in a abuse the shit out of our demo, and it has held up quite well. We've gone up to a week without charging it (not talk time, just playing around and that sort of thing) and it seems to hold strong. We haven't gotten any in at the store other than the demo, but from what I've seen, there is no stylus, that's the only thing I don't like.
Turns out it does have a stylus, so, I'm all for it.
