BenQ renamed QISDA, but still BenQ... huh?
In what appears to be a doomed repeat of Palm, Inc's name changing and restructuring fiasco, BenQ had donned a new, newer moniker: Qisda. Damn if that doesn't just drip off the tongue... like a pneumonic cough. The new name, an acronym actually, stands for Quality, Innovation, Speed, Driving, and Achievements, not Quality Inn San Diego Airport regardless of what the all knowing Google thinks. The company's Chinese name has also changed from "Jia Da" to "Jias Da." So to break it down for you: BenQ is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qisda (AKA, Jias Da) whose familiar purple logo will continue to appear on Qisda's self-branded products. Qisda, however, will focus on LCD monitors, projectors, multi-function peripherals, and handset OEM/ODM businesses. The name change gets all official on September, 1st. Hey Qisda, feel free to use the illustration above for your new corporate logo.

How do you say Qisda? is it like "quiz-da"?
Perhaps we need to explain to them the theory that "If people have to ask you how to say it, it's probably not the best option".
My money is on "quiz-da" though... It seems like the least retarded way to pronounce it.
Hopefully we can buy "BenQ" stickers to cover up that hideous acronym.
And how do you pronounce BenQ? It it Ben-que, or Benk?
@Chris
I think it's pronounced "kiss-da", as in "kiss da marketing guy's ass goodbye"...
Hear hear to BenQ for being the worst name-picker in the history of mankind!
They should have stuck with Acer right from the beginning.
Eww gross.
Bye BenQ it was nice buying your crap!
I wonder who, in Romania, will buy a product made by Qisda? For non-romanians: Qisda sounds like the vulgar word for vagina. "Give me your’s mother Qisda (camera)!". Nice!
Not only in Romania, in Russia too. I think they lost this market with the name like this.
Yes, please take the proposed corporate logo above for free. No royalty fees either. Considering the amount of money your marketing department probably wasted on this stupid name change, you're likely not to want to spend any more.
Then again, it could all be a AT&T -> Cingular -> AT&T strategy. Look for a extremely slightly modified BenQ logo in the near future, possibly case-switched to bENq.
both of those names suck
I wonder if Apple changed their name to Qisda would the reaction be the same.Engadget should post a fake story like that someday to see what happens.
Also, you cant put an "I" after a "Q"!How the hell do you expect people to be able to pronounce that?
Lots of Chinese companies have weird names and even weirder capitalization: ASUSTeK, BenQ, COLORSit, ZyXEL. Some have names starting with "A" just to be in the front of alphabetical listings: A-DATA, AOpen, Acer, ASUS, ASRock...
Are they trying to pull a "Wii" on us here?
I thought Acer owned BenQ all along...
Hmm ok, so BenQ is avoiding creditors now?
I'd kill to be a fly on the wall in BenQ's and Qisda's renaming negotiations.
Utter hilarity, whoever did it. Still, I've seen far worse. It's gonna take a whole lot of dollars to make this name stick, at least in the predominantly english-speaking world.
Just great !!!
"Qisda" means "Qunt" in Russian !!!
