The Gefen wireless USB hub that
we reported on back in the lazy, carefree days of May is finally hitting your block. According to a press release, the hub will be making an appearance at Infocomm 07 as well as going on sale "by show time", which means right now. The hub, if you'll recall, de-clutters workspaces by connecting a "sender/dongle" to your computer and a small receiver to a USB device, allowing for wireless operation up to 60 feet away. For those of us whose homes are starting to look like the ship from The Matrix, this may come as a welcome relief -- as long as you can swing the $399 price-tag.

so instead of having a USB cable going to your computer you'll have a power cable going to the wall. brilliant.
sure, you'd probably plug in a USB hub anyways, but my point is that the USB consortium's 100% focus on wireless USB is ridiculous. in a lot of situations, like flash drives, low-power USB hard drives, and the like, you're replacing one USB cable with a power cable. or, batteries that have to be charged or replaced to use. i'd much rather have USB 3.0 at 1 Gbps+ than wireless USB.

Prices like that will surely keep it from mass acceptance.

Personal note: I don't see every day applications for the hub, necessarily (so what, I can use my USB feet warmers from 150 feet? (that's a joke...)), but I'm *really* looking forward to when UWB gets integrated into other portable devices, like cell phones, etc.

This is awesome if you havent got sockets or free space in convenient places, now finally I can run my printer wirelessly and not have a cable running across the room.
